Fort MacMurray Ridings See Wildrose Defeat Don Scott and Mike Allen

Fort MacMurray ridings, Don Scott, Mike Allen

Don Scott and Mike Allen, former PCs, have been defeated in the Fort MacMurray ridings by Wildrose. Both of the politicians have restated their hope to serve their local community, but they will have to find other ways to do this after losing in the recent election. According to Scott “It’s really been a fantastic journey. Even though tonight, even though there’s some tears out there, I feel good, I feel good from what we’ve accomplished.” Scott also had positive words after being defeated, saying “People asked me why I became a lawyer and the same question was asked of me when I ran with Mike in 2012. I said it was to help people. I think the one thing Mike and I can say is, we’ve helped a lot of people.”

After losing in the Fort MacMurray ridings both Mike Allen and Don Scott are looking forward instead of looking behind them. Allen discussed the loss and said “Some people thought what … we were trying to achieve was balanced … but we also heard from both sides of the spectrum. Obviously the messaging that was out there from the other parties fit with the voters a lot stronger.” Allen also discussed his 2013 charges for soliciting prostitution in Minnesota while the politician was on a business trip. “I didn’t hear it on the campaign trail. I think it was more in the direction of the other parties. A lot of votes were cast in emotion, but time will tell how this will all unfold in the future, and I’ll be watching it very closely.”

Next Provincial Election Will Feature Brian Jean Against Don Scott

provincial election, Brian Jean, Don Scott

The next provincial election in Fort MacMurray will feature Brian Jean against Don Scott, with both politicians hoping to win a spot in the legislator. Brian Jean stated “That is where I live and I have lived in Fort McMurray for 48 years,. I can’t imagine running anywhere else but in my home community. I actually very much love this area. When people talk bad about it, I can’t believe it. It’s unbelievable, but I realize they’re talking from inexperience, much like some of our government members. They don’t take the people’s priorities as their own, they take their priorities and their friends’ priorities and their cronies’ priorities as their own and it’s shameful. We are running in our respective ridings because of all the broken promises made by the PC government and the inability of our local (MLAs) to deliver any improvements in the quality of life to our citizens. They have a lot to answer for.”

When discussing the provincial elecion and running against Don Scott Wildrose Leader Brian Jean was emphatic that the needs of Wood Buffalo have not been met by the government to date. “I hope they do talk about Highway 63, because I will point out to them that in 2006, the federal government provided 50% of funding and it was still not twinned. As a result, now that we’ve come close prices have skyrocketed to over $1 billion. I want to tell them how five different premiers promised our community an Aging in Place facility for Willow Square.” The Fort MacMurray Long Term Care Project has been delayed numerous times since 2008.
