
On Friday there was a fatal vehicle collision at the CNRL Horizon site north of the Fort MacMurray area, and the driver of one of the vehicles involved was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident happened Friday morning around 9 am, and the Wood Buffalo RCMP responded as soon as they were alerted to the fatal vehicle collision. The CNRL Horizon site is situated roughly 120 kilometers to the north of Fort MacMurray. The vehicles that collided were a pickup truck that was heavily loaded and a heavy hauler, and the accident was severe. The RCMP do not believe that alcohol or drugs played a role in the fatal vehicle collision but the accident is still being investigated. The full results of the investigation will take some time because there are a number of factors that are still being identified or evaluated.
The male who died after being involved in the fatal vehicle collision was pronounced at the scene, but the name of the victim has not been released yet. According to the Wood Buffalo RCMP spokesperson Constable Kandice Perry issued the following statement “The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Collision analysis is on scene determining the circumstances leading up to the incident. Canadian Natural extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends and co-workers. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.” According to Occupational Health and Safety the trucks involved in the fatal vehicle collision caught on fire after the impact, and it is not yet clear whether this contributed to the fatality at the CNRL Horizon site..
