Minister Alty to announce Agricultural Benefits specific claims settlements  with First Nations under Treaties 4 and 6

Government of Canada announces support for the Université de l’Ontario français


TORONTO, August 20, 2026

A strong Canada is one where everyone can learn, stay informed and innovate in the official language of their choice. By supporting the next generation of Francophone scientists, we are helping promote Canadian innovation and knowledge, both at home and abroad.

Today, Chi Nguyen, Member of Parliament (Spadina–Harbourfront), announced $99,980 in funding for the Université de l’Ontario français, on behalf of the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages.

This support, provided through the Post-Secondary Sector and Scientific Knowledge in French Support Fund, the funds will support the project “Désinformation/IAG: expérience immersive pour les 20-25 ans francophones au Canada,” which aims to build their resilience and critical thinking skills in the face of disinformation in the age of artificial intelligence.

This project is part of the Action Plan for Official Languages 2023–2028, which calls for an investment of $8.5 million over five years to support the creation and dissemination of scientific content in French across the country.

The Governments of British Columbia and Canada Co-chair the Canadian Council of Fisheries and Aquaculture Ministers’ Annual Meeting


Victoria, British Columbia – British Columbia’s Minister of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship, the Honourable Randene Neill, and the federal Minister of Fisheries, the Honourable Joanne Thompson, will co-chair the annual meeting of the Canadian Council of Fisheries and Aquaculture Ministers (CCFAM) on August 19-20, 2026.

Federal, provincial, and territorial ministers will discuss key issues affecting Canada’s fisheries and aquaculture sectors. This includes fish and seafood trade as well as market access, aquatic invasive species response planning, recreational fisheries data and economic value, initiatives to address illegal fisheries-related activities, aquaculture development, and the impacts of climate change.

The co-chairs will conclude the meeting with a press conference and media availability.

Following the press conference, Minister Thompson and Minister Neill will be joined by the Honourable Lana Popham, British Columbia’s Minister of Agriculture and Food, to make an announcement related to the fisheries sector in B.C.

Supporting the development of integrated mental health services for youth in Yukon

Today, the Honourable Marjorie Michel, Minister of Health, announced over $6.6 million to strengthen and expand access to integrated mental health and wellness supports for youth and young adults aged 12 to 30 across Yukon.

Delivered by BYTE – Empowering Youth Society, the Yukon Integrated Youth Services (IYS) project will bring together health, social service, education, and community partners to create a more coordinated and accessible approach to youth mental health care. This project marks a significant milestone with the first IYS hub in the territories being opened in Whitehorse. The IYS model provides youth with access to a range of services in one place to support their mental health, wellbeing, and overall health, making it easier for young people and their families to find the help they need.

A mobile wellness unit, staffed by mental health professionals and peer supporters, will also travel to rural and remote communities across the Yukon to provide mental health and wellness services and programming.

Supported through the Youth Mental Health Fund (YMHF), this project is part of the Government of Canada’s commitment to improve mental health outcomes for youth across the country by enhancing access to, and navigation of, mental health services with a focus on underserved, rural and Indigenous youth.
