A local Wood Buffalo RCMP officer is facing criminal charges after allegedly selling police investigation information. According to reports by the RCMP on March 25, 2015 Cst. Kyle Gordon Harrison was placed under arrest when allegations were made that Harrison took money in exchange for providing information from the official police database to an unknown individual. Bribery and breach of trust are two of the charges that may stick against the officer if he is found guilty of providing the information and taking money for this. According to Insp. Gibson Glavin the source’s identity and the time of the alleged incidents can not be released yet because the case has not been presented to trial at this early date, however Glavin did say that there was more than one occurrence suspected over an unspecified period of time.

According to Wood Buffalo RCMP Insp. Gibson Glavin “We’re not going to be able to release the specific instance that brought this to our attention because that’s going to form a significant part of the evidence at trial.” he said. The database which was breached by the officer facing criminal charges contains data on information collected during the course of investigations that the RCMP conducted, and privacy legislation protects the information that was accessed and given out by the officer who is charged. “We recognize that the only way that police can properly do our business is if the public has confidence in us and trusts us, so getting on these things quickly is partly how we do that. This member of the RCMP will have an opportunity to have this heard at court, and there’ll be a decision as to whether that’s proved or not at that point.”

RCMP Investigates Abasand Shooting

The Wood Buffalo RCMP is investigating an Abasand shooting, and a local Fort MacMurray man was admitted to the hospital with wounds from the incident. The shooting occurred on Sunday morning at approximately 4:30 am. According to the Wood Buffalo RCMP reports of gunshots fired were called in from a house close to where the Abasands shooting occurred. When the police responded to the call they found a 32 year old man from Fort MacMurray in the residence with gunshot wounds sustained to his body. The scene of the shooting was on Ashgrove Drive, and the victim was taken to Northern Lights Regional Health Centre where he was listed as being in stable condition. When the RCMP arrived the condition of the victim was deemed critical and medical assistance was requested right away.

According to Wood Buffalo RCMP Cpl George Cameron the Abasand shooting involved wounds that required immediate treatment. Cameron explained “The call came in via 911 and the person who called said they heard several shots. When anyone gets hit by gunshots, you’ve got to make sure they get treated ASAP.” Police are seeking suspects who are believed to have been involved in the shooting but complete details on the suspects being sought have been kept under wraps so far. The investigation is still in the early stages, and the RCMP is asking for help from anyone who has any information about the recent Abasand shooting. Have You Seen Heaven-Leigh Grandjambe? Wood Buffalo RCMP Search for Missing Teen

The Wood Buffalo RCMP is searching for 15 year old Heaven-Leigh Grandjambe, who was last seen last Wednesday and is missing. RCMP Constable Mylene Michon reports that the 15 year old was last seen when she visited the Birchwood Trails in Thickwood with a Fort McKay school group. What is known so far is that the missing teen left the main group along with several of her friends, and they went to the Signal Road MacDonalds close by. When the group came back the teen was not with them. Constable Michon said that the RCMP is not aware of the story that was provided to police about what happened to the 15 year old between the time that the friends left to go to MacDonalds and when they returned.

The RCMP is asking that anyone who has seen Heaven-Leigh Grandjambe or who may have information about where the missing teenager is to please contact law enforcement or Crime Stoppers so that the teen can be returned to her home and family. The last time that Heaven-Leigh was seen was around 6:30 pm on Wednesday March 4 in the area near Signal Road and Birchwood Trails. Heaven-Leigh Grandjambe is 15 years old, she is aboriginal, and she weighs 140 pounds and is 5’1” tall. Heaven has brown hair and brown eyes, and it is not known if she simply ran away or if she has been the victim of a crime. Fatal Crash Near Fort MacMurray Leaves One Dead

A fatal crash near Fort MacMurray has left one person dead, and another hospitalized in critical but stable condition in Edmonton. The one vehicle accident occurred at around 2 am on Wednesday morning, and the RCMP responded to the scene which was situated almost 40 km north of Fort MacMurray. According to Cst. Mylene Michon “They hit a parked lowboy … and sustained pretty serious injuries.” No further details could be released about the accident at the time. The passenger in the vehicle was a male who was in his twenties, and he passed away while still at the accident scene before he could be transported to a medical facility. The driver of the vehicle was airlifted from the scene to an Edmonton hospital where the patient was listed as being stable but in critical condition.

The latest fatal crash near Fort MacMurray is a reminder to everyone in the region about the hazards of traveling the roads in the winter. Even when drivers are paying full attention to the road and they take the weather and road conditions into consideration accidents still happen. In this accident the investigation is still continuing, and the police have not provided a lot of details to the public about what happened. Since the fatal crash occurred early in the morning poor visibility may have been a factor. Child in Recent Phosphine Poisoning in Improved Condition, No Longer Critical

The 6 year old child who was recently hospitalized after an entire family in Fort MacMurray experienced phosphine poisoning is improving and is finally out of critical condition. The prayers and support of the entire Fort MacMurray community has been with the family since the incident occurred. A mother and 5 children arrived at the local hospital with symptoms of insecticide poisoning after the family’s apartment was treated by the mother for a bedbug infestation. 8 month old infant Zara and 2 year old toddler Zia died from the exposure to the toxic chemical, and 6 year old Zain was initially listed in critical condition after being transferred to Stollery Children’s hospital in Edmonton. Sources now say the child is expected to recover within the next two or three weeks, and a ventilator has been removed so Zain can breathe without support.

Zain’simproved condition after the phosphine poisoning has provided hope, for the family and for the Fort MacMurray community. Fort McMurray Islamic School principal Taj Mohammed told the media “My kindergarten child is doing better. He is off the respirators and they have given him maybe two to three weeks to recover.” Zain attends the school, and Taj has been chosen as the family’s spokesperson during this extremely tough time. Students at the school were visited by a team of Fort McMurray Public School District counselors and psychologists for support. Mohammed explained “There was a pep talk (among staff) about this and how we can handle it, There were some students who had questions, we brought them out to discuss and let them know what it is. When I went to the hospital here in Fort Mac to see (Zainab), she had requested for a special party when she comes back. The class is all pumped up and they’re ready to welcome her …We’re gearing towards that, I don’t know when the family will be back here. We want to make it fun for the students … they will think about it, but hopefully not as much.”

Was the Calgary Fireball a UFO?

Recently a number of people noticed a Calgary fireball in the night sky, and some even managed to capture the event on film or video. Was it a UFO, a piece of space debris, a spacecraft re-entering the atmosphere, or something else entirely? So far the answer has no been identified, but that has not stopped social media from buzzing about the event and posing questions and possible answers. Photographer Neil Zeller actually captured some photos of the Calgary fireball on Monday night as he was looking to get some pictures of the northern lights in the night sky. Zeller told a reporter from the Sun “It kinda freaked me out. I thought it was a jetliner crashing there were so many pieces to it.”

The recent Calgary fireball is probably not a UFO, and there are some very plausible explanations for what happened. Some have expressed belief that the event was actually a meteor traveling through the earth’s atmosphere. Utah media outlets have been told by Patrick Wiggins, a NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador, that the cause of the fireball in the sky was probably the re-entry of the body of the rocket that was used in December to launch the Chinese Yaogan Weixing-26 satellite. Anyone who missed the Calgary fireball Monday night can see videos of the event on social media sites. Some of the videos that have been uploaded may contain some graphic language though, so viewers should use caution about viewing the videos with younger children around.
