Western New York has had severe winter weather and massive snow accumulation in the last few days, and from reports the situation is only going to get worse before it gets better. The latest severe weather is being blamed for 8 deaths, and at least 2 Canadians have been stranded in New York since Tuesday and still can not get home. The entire area is snow bound, and digging out will be no easy feat. On top of the massive snow accumulation which has reached as high as 5 feet so far there is more snow on the way, and western New York can expect another 30 inches in some areas. 58 year old Chuck Specht, who lives in Marilla, New York, reported that his home had 7 feet of snow in the last few days. “I’ve been in a lot of snowstorms, and this is by far the worst. There’s been more snow in the shortest period of time I’ve ever seen. Even for seasoned veterans, this is getting to be a bit much to handle.”

The winter weather and massive snow accumulation in western New York has kept much of the state in limbo, with people unable to get out of their homes or stranded in their vehicles on the roads. Sunday was supposed to be a big day for the Buffalo Bills, and the NFL team was slated to play against the New York Jets. The game has been canceled out of concern for public safety, and some areas are importing bus loads of workers to help clear out some of the snow.

The recent New York snow extravaganza has managed to keep stranded Canadians from getting home. Mr. and Mrs. Aldo Bartolini were trying to get home to Canada when a snowstorm in western New York caused the stranded Canadians to spend 24 hours in their vehicle on the side of the road, and they were not alone in their plight. When the New York snow started on Tuesday the couple were already headed for the Canadian border and were on their way home, but the snow made it impossible to complete the journey. The onset of the massive snowstorm stranded more than 100 vehicles on the New York State Thruway, and the storm covered roads, buried cars, and even blocked doorways in the area. The Bartolinis had no choice but to stop their vehicle on Route 5, and that was where the couple spent the next 24 hours until a good Samaritan with a snow blower helped out and removed some of the snow blocking several vehicles in. Mr. Bartolini explained “We were struck there with four-foot drifts all around the car and couldn’t get out.”

Even after the stranded Canadians managed to get back on the road their luck did not turn for the better. The New York snow is still preventing the Bartolini family from getting home. After finally getting the vehicle in motion again the couple attempted to head north to the Canadian border but all of the roads were closed down because of the New York snow, and they ended up circling back to where they started. Bartolini told CP24 “We were able to get on some plowed roads and made our way back to the hotel.”

Bill Cosby is battling rape allegations that have been made public, and NBC pulled the comedians planned show as a result. Numerous sources disclosed that the rape allegations and the associated scandal have made it impossible for NBC to continue the show development. If the rumors are true and Bill Cosby is guilty then this was a smart move on the network’s part, but what if they are false? According to Cosby’s lawyers these same allegations have been made in the past and were dismissed, and the women who are making the claims are simply out to get Bill Cosby. In the United States of America a person is considered innocent until they are proven in a court of law, however non of the rape allegations against Bill Cosby have led to criminal charges so many do not know what to believe.

Bill Cosby is not saying anything about the rape allegations, but that should not throw suspicion that he committed these acts without proof. Cosby is in a delicate situation, and he is probably staying mute on the advice of his attorney Martin Singer. If Cosby denies the rape allegations then he could just be adding fuel to the fire, but if he remains silent then there are those who believe he is not saying anything because the comedian is guilty. There are a umber of celebrities who are backing Bill Cosby and who have publicly stated that they do not believe the allegations, but there are others who are not so sure.

An unusual Texas lawsuit has many people scratching their heads in confusions, and others who can not believe the gall of the woman who is bringing the lawsuit over a dog attack. Emerald White is the plaintiff in the dog attack lawsuit, and she freely admits that her 4 dogs went onto her neighbors property and killed the 10 year old beagle that the neighbors owned, yet she is suing the family whose dog was attacked and killed by her dogs. This is the kind of mixed up logic that American courts see on a regular basis, and even more surprising is that an attorney agreed to take the case. White owns 3 pit bulls and a pit bull mix dog, for a total of 4 dogs.

In the unusual Texas lawsuit over a dog attack Emerald White does not deny that her dogs went into the neighbors yard, or that they killed the family’s 10 year old beagle. White is claiming that the beagle attacked her, and her dogs killed the animal in order to protect her. The owner of the beagle, the Baker family, are named as the defendants. It was not enough that White allowed her animals to leave her yard and go into the neighboring property, and that the animals killed the beloved pet of the Baker family, Emerald believes the family should have to pay her for mental anguish, disfigurement, pain, loss of earnings, and a fear of future disease. Most states in the United States have dog control laws, and by her own admission White’s 4 dogs were on the neighbors property when the dog attack occurred.

During negotiations for the most recent Wood Buffalo transit contract Tok Transit won the contract and Diversified Transportation lost out, but the VP for Diversified believes that the contract was compromised during the process and Mike Hannah is asking for a redo because certain documents are missing from the files according to a recent audit. The transit audit occurred on October 21 of this year, and the missing documents call into question the Request for Proposals (RFP) process integrity. Hannah explained “We feel like it’s compromised and we think that this should be re-tendered. It was clear to us that the appropriate due diligence was not done and we felt that we were were really discarded before we began the discussions.” Administrators for the municipality believe that the documents which are missing are minor and do not affect the integrity or the outcome.

Until the last Wood Buffalo transit contract Diversified Transportation was in charge of transit, but the last contract was awarded to Tok Transit instead. Wood Buffalo Municipality Internal Auditor Ralph Timleck provided a presentation which showed that the supply management branch of the municipality did not conform to the standard operating procedures because all relevant documentation was not maintained by the branch. According to the presentation by Timleck “The integrity of the selection process cannot be verified by an audit without the detailed report and scoring assessments.” According to Wayne Coombs, who acted as the municipal transit director for Diversified Transportation “For the municipality not being able to show the audit firm everything about it, that’s an atrocity to me. That’s unacceptable. People would be fired for that. You must have that document.”

The instigator rule has cost the Keyano Huskies dearly recently, and a multiple game suspension was given to both Sam Rockwell and the team’s head coach Nate Bedford for violating this rule. Bedford has let his displeasure over this turn of events show, and he has been vocal about his plans to appeal the suspension. The Keyano Huskies lost the game to the Portage Voyagers, and they received the 3 game suspension because the team has received 3 instigator penalties. Coach Bedford does not have a problem with the instigator rule, but he does take issue with the fact that this rule is not consistently called. The third instigator penalty for the team was given to Sam Rockwell, and he was given a 5 minute major and an instigator penalty, along with a two game suspension.

Because Bedford is the head coach of the Keyano Huskies and his team received 3 instigator penalties he also received a 3 game suspension. Bedford said “I think the intention is right, If you want to try to limit how much fighting in hockey I think it’s a good rule that way. The problem is, it’s so inconsistently called. Out of the three instigators that we have right now, one of them was a fight and the other two weren’t fights. I had a pretty good idea on Sunday when I started looking back at some of our games It’s hard to be an instigator if you don’t throw the first punch.” Coach Bedford also took issue with 2 of the 3 instigator penalties, saying that Rockwell deserved one of the penalties but that two of them were not the right call.
