Second Runway Malfunction at Fort MacMurray International Airport in Same Week

Fort MacMurray International Airport, runway malfunction

There was a second runway malfunction at the Fort MacMurray International Airport last week, on Wednesday flights were delayed and canceled once again because of problems on the runway at the facility. No passengers or staff was ever in any danger, the airport operations team started flight delays as soon as the runway malfunction was determined. Four different flights were completely canceled and several others were delayed because of the runway issues, and the problem was a taxiway malfunction which started at roughly 5:45 pm and continued until around 11 pm that same night. Both events in a week led to the management team at the airport apologizing for any passengers who were inconvenienced because of the delays and cancellations. The good news is that the airport reported that the lighting system on the runway, which caused the first set of delays and cancellations Sunday, stayed online during this latest glitch.

When asked about the latest runway malfunction at Fort MacMurray International Airport commercial services manager Jesse Meyer said “The operations team at YMM is working around the clock to rectify the situation at hand. It’s very much a weather-related situation caused by the temperature fluctuation that occurred between last week and now. We apologize for the inconvenience, and we’re working as hard as we can.” On Sunday there were a total of 17 flights which were canceled because the runway lights were not working properly. If the problems persist then some travelers may think twice before using the Fort MacMurray International Airport if they have another choice.
