Nina Dobrev Has the Coolest Parisian Bob Now
In an Instagram feed full of questionable beauty hacks and brow looks, you can always count on the stylists at L.A.’s Nine Zero One salon to post hair inspiration you’ll actually want to try. Salon co-owner/celebrity stylist Riawna Capri—the brain, hands, and scissors behind the ever-evolving looks of Emma Roberts, Sarah Hyland, and Vanessa Hudgens—also has a knack for naming said inspo. (Roll your eyes all you want at shade names like “Champagne Pop” blond or “Cinnamon Chocolate” brown, but you can’t deny their intrigue.)
Just two weeks ago, Capri gave Nina Dobrev #theDObrev, as she captioned it at the time—a soft blunt version of an angled bob. But in the past 24 hours, and just in time for the premiere of Dobrev’s new film Flatliners, the two switched it up yet again, completing the actress’s yearlong journey of gradual hair transformations and punny hairstyle naming conventions. Say hello to Dobrev’s new ‘do: a sleeker and more angular bob with blunt bangs, and a (much) blunter hashtag name—#theNob.
The difference between the cuts? Aside from combining the word “bob” with different parts of Nina Dobrev’s name, the face-framing bangs are the main attraction of Dobrev’s newest cut. Well, that and the upkeep. As you can probably tell from the image below, this combination of bangs—or #FrenchFringe—and sharply angled cut requires all hands on deck to maintain. Believe me, I had the cut myself a few years back and keeping this angled bob sharp was way more complicated than wrapping my hair at night and getting weekly blowouts.
Dobrev’s blunt cut is not even a day old and she’s already getting a touch-up trim. (Although, to be fair, if I was regularly going to movie premieres, I’d have gotten more frequent trims myself. But I mostly sit at a desk so I went about every three weeks). Is the upkeep of a blunt, angled bob a bit of a nightmare? Absolutely. Is it high-maintenance? 150-percent, but it’s also dramatic, somehow futuristic while also being a throwback to old-school French glam, and it might just be my favorite look Dobrev has debuted this year.
