At this point, most of us pay zero attention to stuffy, old-school fashion advice like “Don’t wear white after Labor Day” or “Your bag and shoes must match!” And yet, even in 2017, there’s still a ton of widely accepted style “rules” that are actually totally outdated, nonsensical, or just plain insulting. We’re still talking about what clothing is considered “appropriate” for women, or judging people who wear leggings out of the house when, believe it or not, they have no intention of exercising—or arguing about whether or not “fashion should stay out of politics” or “women should dress their age.”
