Several train cars derailed south of Blackfalds, Alta. early Saturday, damaging the track and forcing a highway closure, according to police.
The Canadian Pacific Railway train derailed shortly after midnight on Saturday, Alberta RCMP Const. Shelley Nasheim confirmed.
The derailment prompted a closure along Highway 2A near Township Road 392. Blackfalds RCMP responded to the scene, but Nasheim said CP officials have since taken over the investigation.
Nasheim said there were no injuries, but a potential gas leak was being investigated.
The highway was expected to re-open by mid-afternoon Saturday.
Blackfalds is about 20 kilometres north of Red Deer.
