Michelle Obama Is 2018's Most Admired Woman

Michelle Obama is capping off an incredibly successful year with a new title: “America’s Most Admired Woman.”

The former First Lady snagged the top spot for the first time on this year’s Gallup poll, ending Hillary Clinton‘s 17-year streak. Oprah Winfrey came in second, followed by Clinton, Melania Trump, Queen Elizabeth II, German chancellor Angela Merkel, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Ellen DeGeneres.

Obama has been back in the public eye this year thanks to some big projects and initiatives. Her memoir, Becoming—which tells the story of her life beginning on the south side of Chicago and through her eight years in the White House—is the best-selling book of the year. She went on a national book tour that sold out arenas typically reserved for rock stars. On International Day of the Girl, Obama launched her Global Girls Alliance which will focus on empowering adolescent girls around the world through education. “The stats show when you educate a girl, you educate a family, a community, a country,” Obama said at the time.

Oh, and on top of all that amazing work, she had one of the year’s most major fashion moments with a pair of thigh-high glittering Balenciaga boots that set the Internet on fire.

But we hope the Obamas are toasting all their good work together: Former President Barack Obama was named the “Most Admired Man” of 2018 in the same poll for the 11th year in a row.
