The Best Moisturizers, According to Flight Attendants
Asking a beauty professional—whether it’s a celebrity hairstylist, makeup artist, or Instagram influencer (hi, 2018)—for advice is always a safe bet. But dig a little deeper, and you’ll find there are plenty of other women out there who are legitimate authorities in their own right. In our column, Unlikely Experts, they give real reviews and recommendations. Whether it’s surfers on the best conditioners, bikers on the best cleansers, or ballerinas on the best foot creams, it’s fair to say these women know best.
For plenty of working people out there, being a flight attendant is the dream job. Non-stop travel, meeting new and curious people, trying new foods and experiences—and getting paid for it? It’s the opposite of dreaded cubicle work, and as a bonus, it comes with some inherent Instagram bait. But that’s not to say that everything in the air is ideal.
“The air inside of an airplane is circulated and very dry, so constantly flying can be really tough on your skin,” says Lindsey O’Brien, a Philadelphia-based flight attendant who’s been in the air non-stop for five years. If you think you need a special in-flight hydration routine for your one-way ride from STL to NYC, consider your flight attendant who has to fly there and back within a few hours.
With both colder weather and peak travel season approaching, we spoke to 10 flight attendants from all over the world about their go-to moisturizers and hydrating products to beat the high-altitude dryness. From drugstore favorites to luxe splurges, check out their recommendations below.
