9 TV Shows and Movies to Watch This Week in Between Your July 4th Festivities

Fourth of July is this week, which means you’ll probably spend most of your time watching fireworks as opposed to the new TV shows and movies coming out. If you do want a break from the sun, though, there are nine titles—both new and old—you should put on your radar. From the premiere of new films like Sorry to Bother You to classics arriving on Netflix, this watch list will keep you cool in between trips to the beach.

Power: Power is an entertaining show for many reasons; it’s wildly dramatic, set in a world where the stakes are pretty high, and features a really talented cast. Most importantly, however, it includes Omari Hardwick, North America’s hottest man. Do you need any more reason to tune in? Season five kicks off tonight. 9 P.M. ET on Starz

The Sinner, Season 1: This USA TV show was one of last summer’s breakout hits. It centers on a woman (Jessica Biel) who inexplicably stabs a seemingly random man in public at the beach. The catch is, though, even she doesn’t know why she did it. Streaming on Netflix

Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular: Take it from someone who’s attended this event in person: It’s much better on television. You have air-conditioning and, most likely, unlimited access to a refrigerator. 8 P.M. ET on NBC

The First Purge: Your obligatory Purge summer movie is here. This one stars Marisa Tomei and centers on the origin of the purge. Sounds…bloody. In theaters

Blue Valentine: Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams received universal acclaim for their work in this 2010 drama about a marriage on the rocks. Gosling also sings in it, so that’s a plus. Streaming on Netflix

Sorry to Bother You: There are a lot of twists and turns in this vibrant science-fiction comedy, but the simplified version is this: A black telemarketer (Lakeith Stanfield) unlocks success in work when he discovers customers respond better to his “white voice.” Tessa Thompson, Jermaine Fowler, and Omari Hardwick also star. In theaters

Anne With an E: The second season of this Netflix original, based on Anne of Green Gables, arrives on Netflix today. Streaming on Netflix

Scream 4: The fourth installment of this classic franchise arrives on Netflix today, and it’s actually pretty entertaining. Plus, it stars so many of your faves: Emma Roberts, Lucy Hale, Nico Tortorella, Alison Brie, and Hayden Panettiere, just to name a few. Streaming on Netflix
