Justify captures Triple Crown with Belmont Stakes win

Justify and Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith captured the Triple Crown after successfully winning the Belmont Stakes on Saturday.

Justify became horse racing’s 13th Triple Crown winner and second since 2015. With the win, Bob Baffert became just the second trainer to win the Triple Crown twice. He did so in 2015 with American Pharoah, a colt that ended a 37-year drought.

The Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner was a 4-5 favourite heading into the 150th Belmont.

Justify was bred by John Gunther, of Langley, B.C., at Glennwood Farm in Versailles, Ky., which is run by his daughter, Tanya.
