Mindy Kaling‘s baby shower won’t have a place for guests to bet on whether she’s having a boy or a girl, nor will she have to cut into a pink or blue cake to find out the sex of her baby. As the actress revealed in a new interview with Ellen DeGeneres this week, she had no interest in creating any kind of suspense or surprise for herself during her first pregnancy.

When DeGeneres asked if she knew if she would be having a son or daughter, or if she was keeping it a secret from herself, Kaling replied, “I am not waiting, I wanted to know way early. I’m having a girl.” Who else is counting down the days until the world meets this tiny, definitely adorable mini Mindy Kaling?

Kaling and DeGeneres also discussed how it was actually Kaling’s A Wrinkle in Time costar Oprah Winfrey who first spilled the beans somewhat prematurely about the pregnancy. “She did announce it,” Kaling said, laughing. “I had told Oprah and Reese [Witherspoon] on a movie we’re working on, A Wrinkle in Time, and she announced it at press—she was very excited.”

But there are no hard feelings between the pair. “If anyone is going to announce big news about your private life, Oprah Winfrey is the person,” Kaling said. “You can’t complain that much about it. And you also can’t be like, ‘Hey, Oprah, zip it’—because she’s almost like a religious figure. So if there’s one person I have to tell my daughter about that revealed her existence to the world, Oprah is pretty good.” She added, “I think I learned a long time ago that it’s probably not a good idea to reprimand Oprah!”

Rumors began swirling in July that the 38-year-old was expecting her first child, and although she kept her lips zipped on the topic, Oprah ended up confirming the news later that month to People. “My mouth dropped,” Winfrey said of Kaling telling her the news while they were standing in a press line. “She said, ‘Oh, Oprah, I don’t think you know. I’m five months pregnant.’ And I said, ‘What?!'”

Kaling finally confirmed the news herself in an interview with the Sunday Today show that aired in September. “[Motherhood is] so unknown to me,” she told host Willie Geist. “I have a lot of control over a lot of aspects of my life, and this is one where I’m like, ‘OK, it’s out of my hands,’ which is kind of a fun feeling. “
