Motorists in Edmonton, Spruce Grove and Jasper are being warned about road closures on the Labour Day weekend for the Tour of Alberta professional cycling race.
Sections of highways and other roads will be closed to accommodate cyclists and their entourages, the Alberta government said in a travellers’ advisory Monday.
The Tour of Alberta is a professional cycling race. This year’s version kicks off Friday in Jasper National Park before moving to Spruce Grove on Saturday. Its final two days will be in Edmonton, Sunday and Monday.
The event will feature 12 teams, each with eight cyclists. The riders come from 14 countries.
Road closures will begin Friday in Jasper National Park for Stage 1, moving to Spruce Grove on Saturday and then to Edmonton for the final two days. Cyclists will race in the University of Alberta area on Sunday and in the downtown on Monday.
