'Number of confirmed fatalities' at Ariana Grande concert in U.K., say police

Police say there have been a “number of confirmed fatalities” and injuries after an explosion at the Manchester Arena in northern England, where U.S. pop star Ariana Grande was giving a concert.

“Emergency services responding to serious incident at Manchester Arena. Avoid the area. More details will follow as soon as available,” Greater Manchester Police said on Twitter.

A video posted on Twitter showed fans screaming and running inside the venue.

A witness who attended the concert said she felt an explosion as she was leaving the concert.

“We were making our way out and when we were right by the door there was a massive explosion and everybody was screaming,” Catherine Macfarlane told Reuters. “It was a huge explosion — you could feel it in your chest. It was chaotic. Everybody was running and screaming and just trying to get out of the area.”

A spokesperson for the singer said: “Ariana is okay. We are further investigating what happened.”
