Two people have been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of a 25-year-old man on the Saddle Lake Cree Nation reserve.
At about 4 a.m. on Nov. 8, RCMP officers were called to a home on the reserve after reports that a man had been shot.
Officers didn’t find victim Robert Stamp but found significant evidence of foul play at the scene, RCMP said in a statement released Monday.
On Sunday, police arrested and charged a man, 26, and a woman, 26, with second-degree murder in Stam[‘s Nov. 8 death.
The suspects, both of whom have ties to Saddle Lake and Edmonton, are scheduled to appear in provincial court Thursday.
The case was initially treated as a missing person’s investigation. Ten days after they started investigating, RCMP issued a bulletin, requesting the public’s assistance in the case.
At the time, they indicated that Stamp’s disappearance was suspicious. Investigators suspected Stamp, who was from Saddle Lake, may have been the victim of foul play.
His 2009 silver Dodge Journey had been located by police near Highway 15 and Range Road 202, west of Lamont.
The Saddle Lake Cree Nation reserve is 28 km west of St. Paul, and 180 km northeast of Edmonton.
