RCMP in Whitecourt are investigating after a fire truck collided with an SUV early Friday morning, killing the female driver.
Firefighters in Whitecourt were responding to fire call in a rural area west of Whitecourt at around 6 a.m.
On their way to the scene, the fire rescue tanker collided with an SUV at the intersection of Dahl Drive and Highway 43.
The lone person in the SUV, a 33-year-old woman from Whitecourt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two firefighters in the tanker were not hurt.
According to several witnesses, the truck had its emergency lights on at the time of the crash.
Sgt. Tom Kalis with the Whitecourt RCMP said the fire truck was on its way to a mobile home fire.
Police are not releasing the name of the driver.
Whitecourt is about 180 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
