Edmonton police say they’ve arrested a man suspected of setting five fires over the past three days.
The first three fires were set within a 24-hour period in the area of 109th Street and 51st Avenue, police say.
The first fire happened in an alley at around 7:45 a.m. Sunday, where emergency crews found the remains of a small structure fire. At around 6 a.m. on Monday, a Jeep was burned in the same area. An hour and a half later, a motorhome was found on fire a block and a half away.
At 3 a.m. Tuesday, police were called to the same area for lumber and trash that had been set on fire. At 8 a.m., they were called again, and found chopped wood and a shed on fire.
Nearby, police arrested a man in his 20s.
“He happened to be leaving the area where we found another small fire,” said police spokeswoman Cheryl Sheppard. “We spoke to him after we saw him leaving the scene, and that’s when he was apprehended.”
The man’s name has not yet been released and charges are in the process of being laid, Sheppard said.
The man was not previously known to police.
No one was injured in the fires, and the cost of the damage has not yet been determined.
