Early morning fire displaces Edmonton tenants


One person was taken to hospital after an early-morning fire forced several tenants of an apartment building out of their homes on Sunday morning.

Fire crews were called to an apartment building on 118th Avenue and 86th Street at around 3:45 a.m. and found smoke pouring from a suite on the top floor.

Ten firetrucks and as many as 40 firefighters were on-scene when the fire was declared out just before 4:30 a.m. Edmonton Fire said there was heavy damage to 10 suites in the building. One person was taken to hospital for precautionary reasons, and several cats and dogs were saved.

No word yet on the cause or the cost of the fire.
