Police have charged a young person with making threats against Ottewell Junior High School in east Edmonton.
The suspect was arrested at about 11 p.m. Thursday following online threats directed at the school and its students.
The arrest comes after threats were directed against several schools in the city this week.
Police charged two students with uttering threats in separate incidents Thursday after Instagram postings targeted staff and students at McNally and J. Percy Page High Schools.
Threats were made the same day against Harry Ainlay High School, prompting a lockdown.
Edmonton Police school resource officers messaged students Friday to let them know the threats were being investigated. They also warned them of the consequences of making such threats.
Police encourage people to forward any information regarding threatening online behaviour.
“The safety of children is our shared responsibility,” police spokesman Scott Pattison said in a news release Friday afternoon.
“The EPS is also grateful to those students who have provided police with important information that has assisted investigators in identifying those responsible for these online threats.”
