One dead, four hurt as car, SUV collide in Sherwood Park


One person was killed and four others injured early Thursday in a collision at the intersection of Baseline Road and Brower Drive in Sherwood Park.

RCMP and Strathcona County Emergency Services responded to the collision at 4:50 a.m..

In a news release, RCMP said it appearsĀ an SUV was travelling west on Baseline Road when a passenger car travelling north on Glenbrook Blvd, which becomes Brower Drive, went through the intersection against a flashing red light.

The passenger car was struck by the SUV.

One of three passengers in the car died at the scene.

Two other passengers were transported to hospital with serious injuries.

The car’s driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the SUV received minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

An RCMP collision analyst is on scene and the investigation is continuing.

Road conditions and visibility were good at the time of the collision.

Traffic is being diverted around the scene.
