70 years behind the wheel and still rolling along

When Dolores Berlin first learned to drive, a driver’s test was not required.

“I learned to drive by my father teaching me when I was 14,” Berlin said.

Berlin was participating Thursday in the first ever Senior’s Mobility Expo in Edmonton.

The expo was set up to provide information and help seniors plan ahead in considering their transportation options.

Berlin participated in a one-on-one in-vehicle evaluation, in which an Alberta Motor Association evaluator watched her drive and made suggestions about what she needs to work on.

Berlin, who did well in the review, says staying healthy is the key to driving late in life.

“Keeping in as good physical condition as I can gives me the reaction time that keeps me safe on the road,” she said. “Safe not only for myself, but for drivers around me.”
