Rosie MacLennan, Canada’s only gold medallist in 2012 in London, returned to the top step of the podium in women’s trampoline on Friday at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
MacLennan, the 27-year-old from King City, Ont., scored 56.465 in her medal-round routine. She had qualified third for the final round, so had to wait through two more routines for the final outcome.
But Li Dan of China and Tatsiana Piatrenia of Belarus were not able to overtake MacLennan. Li won bronze; Piatrenia finished fifth.
Bryony Page of Great Britain earned the silver medal after qualifying seventh.
MacLennan was the flag bearer for Canada at the opening ceremony. She is the 12th Canadian athlete in Summer Olympic history to win two gold medals, joining the likes of Percy Williams, Alex Baumann, Carolyn Waldo, Marnie McBean and Kathleen Heddle, and Donovan Bailey.
