Darrell Peter Moosomin, the Alberta offender who escaped from a powwow during an escorted visit, is back in custody.
At 6 p.m. Sunday evening, Killam RCMP recieved a tip that a man who fit Moosomin`s description was hitchhiking on Highway 13.
RCMP officers sent to the area identified the man and arrested him without incident just east of Daysland, about 140 kilometers southeast of Edmonton.
On Aug. 13, the 54-year-old managed to slip away from an elder assigned to watch him during an authorized escorted leave at a powwow on the Samson Cree First Nation in Maskwacis.
In a news release issued late Friday afternoon, RCMP noted the man is a declared dangerous offender and “should not be approached if seen.”
Moosomin was serving an indeterminate sentence at the Pe Sakastew Centre in Maskwacis at the time of the escorted visit, he remains in police custody and is currently awaiting a hearing.
