Surmont Sand & Gravel Resumes Timberlea Sewer Upgrades With New Plan

Timberlea sewer upgrade, Surmont Sand & Gravel

Surmont Sand & Gravel has resumed work on the Timberlea sewer upgrade project after the company put a plan in place to minimize the chance of waterline breaks. The business was previously forced to stop their work when 4 water lines were broken within a span of a few days. The RMWB issued the company a stop work order in order to assess the situation and figure out the best way to resolve it. The municipality lifted the stop work order last Friday, allowing Surmont Sand & Gravel to resume working on the Timbrlea sewer upgrade project. According to RMWB Director of Environmental Services Darcy Dragonetti “Temporary water service will now be provided to all residents whose houses are serviced by waterlines affected by excavation.”

A plan has been put in place by Surmont Sand & Gravel to continue the Timberlea sewer upgrade while ensuring that water line breaks do not keep happening and causing problems for residents in the area. Dragonetti talked about the plan and discussed how the problem will be avoided from this point forward “We’ll run a line overland off of a fire hydrant. We’ll run that line overland and we’ll connect temporary services from that line to the houses, essentially by either hooking them up to the outside hose bibs, or by going inside and making a temporary connection. But typically we can do that from outside the house. Once the work is done, and the trench is backfilled then we re-energize the section of watermain and disconnect the temporary line that’s running overland. It’s a bit of a procedure, but that way the residents will not have any interruptions in the water supply while the work is ongoing.”
