Project for Timberlea Sewer Update Halted by Several Waterline Breaks
The project for the Timberlea sewer update has been halted after there have been 4 waterline breaks in the space of three days, leaving residents in neighborhoods situated near Brett Drive on hold. Surmont Sand & Gravel Ltd. Is the company which is responsible for the updated sewer system along Brett Drive. Between September 7 and September 8 of this year the construction on the project caused a total of four waterline breaks. After reports of these breaks were published by the media another waterline was broken due to construction. Surmont is discussing what steps to take with a consultant and they have not made any recommendations so far about what plan will be implemented.
RMWB Director of Environmental Services Darcy Dragonetti discussed the Timberlea sewer update and waterline breaks. “Coming as a result of that, obviously the line was shut down, the line was repaired, all of that rigmarole we’ve been going through on a number of occasions of late. We met the following morning and we decided to put a stop to work until such time that we were satisfied with the plan moving forward to minimize a reoccurance. We just didn’t have any confidence in the work proceeding without occurrence and re-ocurrance on the site.” Dragonetti also stated “I would go as far as to say it could likely impact the completion date because there’s only so many days of construction time left in the season. The continuous and uninterrupted safe supply of water is important to us.”
