Rachel Notley, the NDP leader who toppled the Progressive Conservatives’ 44-year grip on power on May 5, will officially become premier of Alberta this afternoon.
The 51-year-old former labour lawyer will be sworn in by Chief Justice Catherine Fraser. The 11 members of Notley’s cabinet will also be sworn in.
The public has been invited to view the event, which will take place on the steps of the Alberta legislature in Edmonton.
The weather is ideal for an outdoor ceremony — sunny skies with temperatures in the mid-twenties.
CBC will be livestreaming the ceremony which starts at 2 p.m. MT. CBC reporters will also be tweeting as events unfold at the legislature grounds.
