Notley told reporters on Wednesday that the first look behind the curtain since her NDP swept to power on May 5 has revealed that the province’s budget woes are worse than she thought.
The new premier said she and her 11 cabinet ministers are continuing to be briefed by department officials on many issues.
Albertans can expect policy announcements from her new government on such things as education funding, a royalty review and health-care spending in the next few days, she says.
As he arrived at the McDougall Centre on Tuesday morning, Education Minister David Eggen said he would be giving his cabinet colleagues a presentation on several options to fully fund enrolment growth.
“Well time is of the essence, right, because the school year is different from our budget year with the province,” he said.
“So there’s a lot of learning that’s at stake, a lot of insecurity that needs to be resolved and many hundreds of jobs that need to find resolution to.”
