Manitoba grandma puts fast on hold after not hearing back from CFS, province

A Manitoba grandmother is temporarily ending her fast, which she started on Sunday and plans to continue until Child and Family Services (CFS) returns her grandson.

She is calling the fast a defiant spiritual response to the province, and says CFS took the 18-month-old boy after his teenage mom stayed out past curfew at a shelter.

“The system needs to be taken down and a whole new method of helping families and children needs to be reborn,” she said.

On Friday, the grandmother tried to meet with Manitoba’s minister of family services, KerriĀ Irvin-Ross, but was not able to reach her.

“…I’m going to ask her to come join us with our pipe ceremony and pray for these children,” the grandmother said.

She says CFS has not gotten back to her, and she plans to resume the fast on Saturday.
