Three people are dead and one is in hospital following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 2 south of Edmonton.
RCMP say the crash happened in the southbound lanes of the QEII near the 41st Avenue overpass construction site around 10:40 a.m. Monday.
Three people were declared dead on scene. The surviving victim was air-lifted to an Edmonton hospital.
While the cause of the crash is still unknown, police believe the SUV the four were in lost control and rolled over. A collision re-constructionist is now on scene. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Leduc RCMP.
While the investigation is underway, police have blocked off the QEII just south of Edmonton. They say that closure is likely to remain in effect for several hours.
They’re asking drivers to find alternate routes south of Edmonton.
For those travelling to the Edmonton International Airport, spokeswoman Heather Hamilton recommends taking 50th Street south to Highway 19 before re-joining Highway 2 south of the crash site. Alternately, Hamilton said drivers can take Highway 625.
