Shawn Maxwell Rehn, the 34 year old St. Albert Mountie shooter, had a past criminal record and was a drug addict according to recent reports. This past was outlined in court documents and included assaulting a former girlfriend and drug addiction. In 2009 an emergency protection order was put into place after Rehn’s girlfriend at the time asked for protection following more than one attack on her by Rehn. The woman, who is the mother of Rehn’s daughter, is 35 years old and lives in Spruce Grove. On May 23, 2009 the ex girlfriend spoke in front of a justice of the peace and claimed that Rehn freaked out on her, calling her debasing names and then punching her. During the testimony the woman said that Rehn also assaulted her two weeks before the latest assault.

The St. Albert Mountie shooter Shawn Maxwell Rehn was a violent man in life, and a past criminal record that showed his violent tendencies. During the 2009 hearing for the emergency protective order the ex girlfriend testified that “He choked me out and stepped on my hand and ripped out my hair and broke my collar bone. He’s a drug user, so he’s of a violent nature, and he uses drugs and he does criminal activity, brings heat around the house, and I think he’s a threat to me.” The woman also stated that “He’s a threat to his daughter. He’s threatened my family saying he’s gonna come . . . go after my brothers and my dad. And he’s had a gun and he forced me and (the daughter) to sleep in the same room as him with a loaded gun one night when he was being paranoid and thought there was people gonna roll on us.”
