Some Edmonton mosques are increasing security in the wake of the violence in France.
The city’s largest mosque Al-Rashid is stepping up surveillance and security patrols.
“We have a responsibility as a public institution to our congregation and this is moment of stress globally,” said spokesperson Aumer Assaf.
“We’re unequivocally saddened by this and we don’t feel that it’s a justified representation of who we are. It’s a violent act and we just want to just make sure our community’s safe.”
Sahaba Mosque is temporarily hiring security and closing its doors a little earlier.
Earlier today Gurdwara Singh Sabha, a Sikh temple on Millwoods Road, was targeted by vandals who spraed profane and racist graffiti on the exterior walls.
