Christmas, staff crunch collapse mail service in Morinville

Some Morinville residents are frustrated with Canada Post after a week with no mail.

“I know that it’s not coming to me, so I don’t know where it’s going,” said Vanessa Anderson.

Tyler Gingras is still waiting for a Christmas package to arrive.

“I know holiday season is busy, like it’s understandable, there’s so many packages going through,” he said.

Canada Post blames the Christmas rush and staffing shortages, but says delivery should be back to normal.

“We’ve hired two new contractors and all the routes are covered,” said spokesperson John Caines. “I checked today and all the mail was out.”

Union representative Bev Ray said staffing is a problem everywhere at the Crown corporation.

“Canada Post doesn’t seem to really care if mail is left sitting to be delivered, because they don’t have proper staff.”
