Alberta grocery stores have received bomb threats in recent moths, and two of the threats were made to stores in Fort MacMurray. Law enforcement believes that the bomb threats are being made by a male in Florida. RCMP Cpl. George Cameron said “I know there’s been similar incidents across the province. We’re confident that it’s the same individual or individuals.” According to the police two if the incidents in November came from the same number, a phone number in Florida. The Safeway store, located in downtown Fort MacMurray received one of the bomb threats and the other local incident occurred at the Timberlea Save On Foods. According to law enforcement the Alberta grocery stores targeted with bomb threats are suspected to be the actions of a single individual, and when the threat is called in the caller demands money.

The bomb threats against Alberta grocery stores has caused significant disruptions in normal operations. Each time a bomb threat was received the store targeted had to evacuate shoppers and employees, and public resources were used to investigate the threats and determine whether they were credible. Canadian law enforcement has been in contact with law enforcement agencies in the USA during the investigation. According to Cpl Cameron “Right now, that’s the best way we can deal with it here in Fort McMurray, ensuring public safety. There’s probably a 99.9 per cent chance that there’s not a bomb in the building, but we can’t take that chance, right? Especially with what’s going on in the world today, we don’t know who’s out there …It’s a pain in the ass, yes, but scary at the same time, too.”
