Things Looking Up for the Fort MacMurray Oil Barons
Things have been looking up for the Fort MacMurry Oil Barons hockey team, and hopefully this trend will continue. At the beginning of November the team lost back to back games when they went up against the Spruce Grove Saints, and in the 13 games that followed the Fort MacMurray Oil Barons managed a 10-3 record that shows the hockey team is focusing more and playing better than ever. According to Ryan Allen, the assistant coach for the Oil Barons “Everybody’s getting used to changes and the new systems and new coach obviously. More buy-in from everybody including our veterans and that trickles down to our rookies. After Okotoks, I think everyone was mad at that game. We didn’t play that well and everyone’s attitude changed and came out against Brooks.”
Hockey has gotten more exciting since the Fort MacMurray Oil Barons have Stefan Burzan back after an injury that was not disclosed. When asked about his return Burzan commented “It’s good to be back. It was tough watching. It’s been a long road so I’m just happy to be back. Defensive style, winning draws, that’s something that every team needs, regardless of a winning streak or not.” There is also talk about Luc Lalor returning to the Fort MacMurray Oil Barons, and Cole Davis and Kioe Gable were called up for Wednesday’s hockey game against the Saints. All in all it looks like the Oil Barons are on a roll, and nothing could make hockey fans in the Wood Buffalo area happier.
