Police are investigating a collision in west Edmonton that left a 27-year-old man dead early Saturday morning.
The man was driving a Pontiac Grand Prix, believed to have been stolen, when he ran a red light at the 132nd Avenue and 127th Street intersection. Police say the vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed.
A man driving a Nissan Sentra was driving through the intersection at that time and was struck by the Pontiac.
Both vehicles spun out of control and the Pontiac hit a large wooden post in the corner of the intersection.
The 27-year-old driving the Pontiac, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, died on the scene.
The 36-year-old man driving the Nissan was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police interviewed several witnesses at the scene.
The police are still investigating, however, they say they believe speed was a factor in the collision.
