Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson gathered local leaders in health, education, policing and economic development for a summit Monday in the hopes of outlining key priorities for the city.
The summit included a range of representatives, including Edmonton Economic Development CEO Brad Ferguson, Edmonton Public Schools board chairwoman Sarah Hoffman and University of Alberta professor Dr. Louis Francescutti.
Iveson said the summit was an opportunity for the city to determine municipal priorities.
“The most common theme for everybody is extraordinary growth pressures driving a lot of costs for us,” Iveson said. “We all need a lot of infrastructure and a lot of expansion of our services.”
The mayor said the priorities identified in today’s session will be part of a letter that the city is sending to Premier Jim Prentice to ask for funding in the next provincial budget.
“I think there’s an opportunity for Edmonton to speak with a unified voice,” Iveson said.
