Katy Perry is once again opening up about the dark days she went through following her divorce from ex-hubby Russell Brand.
In a new interview with Australia’s The Project on Monday, the 30-year-old “This Is How We Do” singer revealed just how serious her depression got after her split back in 2011.
“It was sad and there were thoughts, but there were never actions, thankfully,” Perry said, referencing her previous admission that she contemplated suicide. Perry has also publically confessed that her emotional ballad “By the Grace of God” is about her breakup with Brand.

“Then there’s ‘By the Grace of God,’ which is the first song that I wrote coming to make this record, when I was in a different place, I was in a darker place,” she said of the emotional tune. “You always feel like you’re the only one going through that. Well then comes along a song that speaks to you, that makes you feel like, ‘Gosh, I can get through this. If she can get through this, I can get through this.'”
These days, the pop star has a new man in her life: deejay and producer Diplo. While Perry has kept her current relationship mostly “undercover,” she did wish her boyfriend a happy 36th birthday today via Twitter.
“Happy Birthday,” she tweeted Monday. As for the shrimp emoji that accompanied her b-day wish, we’re assuming it’s a nod to Diplo’s song “So Many Shrimp.”
Too cute.
Diplo also recently helped Perry celebrate her 30th birthday with some partying in Paris and Morocco.
