Aboriginal magazine turning tables on CBC tolerance poll

Chris Ross RezX

There’s been some strong response to a CBC poll that found people on the prairies are less tolerant toward aboriginal people when compared to others across the country.

The editor of a Saskatchewan-based aboriginal magazine has reversed some of the questions asked in the CBC poll.

Ross said about 90 per cent of respondents to his poll are aboriginal. (CBC)

Chris Ross, the editor and publisher of RezX magazine, simply replaced the word “aboriginal” in his poll with “white or Caucasian.”

Ross is asking how aboriginal people would feel about dating a white person or how comfortable they would feel if a Caucasian person moved in next door.

“In order for us to really build on those (CBC poll results), we have to ask the other questions too and that’s why I put the poll out there. To balance that out and to see, to see what both sides thought,” said Ross.

Ross is still tabulating responses, but so far more than 90 per cent of the respondents are aboriginal. Most said they are very comfortable with non-aboriginal people.
