$2,000 fine for driver who killed Whyte Avenue pedestrian

The 19-year-old woman who struck and killed a pedestrian in a crosswalk has been given a two-month driving suspension and $2,000 fine.

The woman was charged after driving into and killing musician and radio host David Finkelman on January 27.

Under a joint submission to the judge, she pleaded guilty to failing to yield to a pedestrian.

Finkelman, 27, was walking across Whyte Avenue in a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a car turning left from 101st Street.

He was taken to hospital where he later died.

The woman was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and careless driving.

Finkelman played guitar and trumpet with Edmonton band Energetic Action and hosted the Saturday afternoon show “Big A, little a” on CJSR Radio.

He is also the son of retired CBC journalist Steve Finkelman.
