Stollery Children’s Hospital opens new clinic named after Oilers

Alberta Health Services unveiled a new $15.8 million clinic at the Stollery Children’s Hospital on Friday with the help of a few legendary hockey players.

The Edmonton Oilers Ambulatory Clinic will allow patients to meet multiple specialists in a single visit.

Wayne Gretzky was on hand for the unveiling, along with Alberta Health Minister Stephen Mandel.

The facility was named after the Oilers, who donated $2 million for the project.

“This initiative will increase collaboration and communication among healthcare providers, which can only serve our patients better,” Mandel said in a news release. “I support any initiative that can streamline services and access and put patients and their families first.”

The Oilers are hosting a reunion on Friday night in honour of the 30th anniversary of the 1984 Stanley Cup victory.

The money raised from the event will go towards running the clinic.

“It is important to the Oilers organization — and especially Wayne Gretzky — that we have a legacy in honour of the [1984] team. There is no better place and no better partner than the Stollery,” said Kevin Lowe, the Oilers president, in a news release.

The clinic will feature many services, including pediatric infectious diseases, home nutrition support program, respirology, and an oncology survivors clinic.
