Wood Buffalo RCMP Look for Fort MacMurray Stabbing Suspect

The Wood Buffalo RCMP is on the lookout for a Fort MacMurray stabbing suspect, and they are hoping that the local community can help them catch the male suspect. The stabbing occurred last Friday at around 6:30 am in the morning, and an arrest warrant has been issued for Amin Abdi Jama. According to the Wood Buffalo RCMP a report was received early Friday morning about a stabbing that occurred on Saunderson Avenue located in the downtown Fort MacMurray area. When law enforcement arrived at the location in question they found an unidentified male from Fort MacMurray with stab wounds. The male victim was transported to the local hospital, the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre, where he was treated for injuries that were determined to be non life threatening.

The Fort MacMurray stabbing victim was released from the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre the same day after receiving medical treatment for his injuries. The Wood Buffalo RCMP investigated the incident, and this led to an arrest warrant being issued for Amin Abdi Jama, the suspect in the case. Jama is 25 years old, and law enforcement believe that he is still in the Fort MacMurray area. Jama is not considered to be a threat to the general public, and it is believed that the victim and Jama knew each other prior to the stabbing. Wood Buffalo RCMP is asking anyone who knows where Jama is currently to contact either the Wood Buffalo RCMP, at the 780-788-4000 or to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Fort MacMurray has seen the arrival of Halloween, and it is important for everyone to have a safe and happy holiday today. This evening the streets and neighborhoods will be filled with trick or treaters in a wide variety of costumes, and kids of all ages will be out going from door to door collecting candy and other goodies. A costume which is very visible in the evening is a good choice, It allows drivers and others to see the child so that there are no accidents or injuries instead of gorging on candy once the kids return home. In the dark it may be difficult to see your child crossing the street or going through an intersection, so take steps to boost their visibility. Glow sticks, flash lights, and other light sources not only make your child more visible to others but these items can also help prevent any trips and falls because your child can not see where they are walking.

Remind children in Fort MacMurray to wait until they get home to eat any candy that they get for Halloween, and to have an adult check their loot before they consume it. Fort MacMurray is a fairly safe community but this is a step that every parent should reinforce just in case. You should also remind children not to go into the homes of any strangers that they do not know. Younger children should always be accompanied by an adult, and older children should be with at least one other buddy for safety.

Fort Chipewyan Man Sentenced for Trafficking Drugs in Fort MacMurray

Fort MacMurray Provincial Court recently sentenced a Fort Chipewyan man of drug trafficking, handing down a sentence of probation and house arrest for his attempt to ship a large quantity of marijuana to Fort Chipewyan from Fort MacMurray. 33 year old Robert Dolbec from Fort Chipewyan was arrested after an anonymous tip was called in to the RCMP. This tip involved a suspect who was trying to ship over 5 kilos of marijuana at McMurray Aviation, and wanted to send the drugs to Fort Chipewyan. Dolbec was arrested on November 1 of 2013 and charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. When law enforcement arrested Dolbec for drug trafficking they also seized. 5.2 kilograms of marijuana at the scene.

The drug trafficking charge that Robert Dolbec received for the charges in Fort McMurray resulted in a sentence that included 9 months of house arrest and 9 months of curfew, for a total of 18 months of probation for the 33 year old. Dolbec entered a guilty plea for the charge and his sentencing was set for October 28, 2014, when he received the probation sentence and was made aware of the restrictions and responsibilities that he faced while he serves out the sentence. In addition Dolbec can also be banned from owning a firearm for the rest of his life. Drug trafficking in Fort MacMurray continues to be a problem for RCMP and other law enforcement officials, and it seems like one trafficking avenue is shut down when another is started.

Many Fort MacMurray residents are starting their holiday preparations, because this can be a very busy time of year and there is always so much to get done it seems like there is never enough time in each day. Friday is Halloween, and that means buying candy, decorating your home and yard, and getting ready for hordes of children in their very best costumes showing up at your door. Soon after Halloween Fort MacMurray starts getting ready for Thanksgiving, with a schedule of cleaning, decorating, and other holiday preparations like cooking an enormous meal for a large crowd. This can be one of the best and the worst times of the year at the same time. You enjoy having a meal with family and close friends but there is so much you have to do so that this is possible.

After Fort MacMurray residents get through the Thanksgiving holiday it is time for the Christmas holiday preparations, and this can be the most stressful and time consuming of all. The entire month of December often flies by with shopping, cleaning, cooking, wrapping gifts, and decorating. Many people take a materialistic view of Christmas, forgetting what this holiday is actually all about. Everyone is having a holiday party or other special event, and the days leading up to the Christmas holiday can seem very hectic as a result. Once Christmas Day has passed the stress does not let up, because the New Year holiday is just a week away, leaving little time for breathing. Founder of Kids Forever, An Organization Helping Fort MacMurray Residents, is Honored

Jon Foy, the founder of the Kids Forever Foundation, was recently honored by the province for all of his hard work and efforts to help children in the Fort MacMurray community, and in other areas of Canada as well. When asked about being honored Foy responded “I just like helping kids and sick kids. I saw there was an opportunity for that in Canada when I came here.” Mike Allen and Don Scott were the MLAs who were honoring the Kids Forever Foundation founder at the Clearwater Hotel. The organization was started by Foy in 1998, in order to help families in Fort MacMurray who needed assistance caring for ill or disabled children. While Kids Forever started out in Fort MacMurray Jon Foy has not limited his generosity to this local area, his foundation has started to become focused on children in the entire Alberta area of Canada.

As Kids Forever has branched out from the Fort MacMurray the organization has worked with many other children charity based organizations. These charities include Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort MacMurray, Ronald McDonald House, Stollery Children’s Hospital, Camp Health, Hope and Happiness, and Glenrose Hospital. Since the founding of Kids Forever it is estimated that the organization has helped more than 300 families in the Alberta area who suffer from financial hardship. The organization has helped to cover the costs for medical equipment, medical expenses, and even travel related costs so that kids can receive treatment. Jon Foy deserves to be honored, because his organization has made a big difference in the lives of many children.

Injured Hunter Rescued North of Fort MacMurray by Volunteers and Facebook Posts

Trevor Simon, an injured hunter who was rescued by volunteers, would probably not be around today and would most likely have frozen out in the wilderness north of Fort MacMurray instead. Simon headed off for a hunting trip with friends Thursday morning, with a destination that was roughly 100 kilometers north of Fort MacMurray. After shooting a moose Trevor crossed Firebag River so he could retrieve the animal, and friends helped him load the moose onto a canoe to be transported to a nearby truck. The weight of the moose proved to be too much, so Simon volunteered to ride with the animal carcass to the nearby vehicle located around a bend in the river. When the rest of the group arrived at the spot agreed on Trevor Simon was nowhere to be found, and friends contacted the police and reported him missing at 6:30 pm Thursday evening.

Injured hunter Trevor Simon can thank the local Fort MacMurray community, and his wife and friends, for finding him as quickly as they did. While the local police recommended that people stay out of the woods individuals with extensive knowledge of the area set out to locate Trevor as soon as possible. The canoe ended up getting away from Simon and he ended up on the bank of the river, soaking wet and with only four bullets for his rifle. Simon climbed a tree to ensure he was safe from wolves in the area and was injured when he was climbing back down. Doctors believe Trevor has hypothermia and may also have a fractured vertebrae and frostbite.
