Let Sophia Bush and Her Neighborhood Mailman Inspire Your Next Small Act of Kindness

We could all take notes from Sophia Bush.

This afternoon, the former One Tree Hill actress took to Instagram to share a “bright spot on this #quarantine Tuesday” will her fans and followers.

“This is my friend JP. He’s been my neighborhood’s UPS man for as long as I can remember. He’s one of my favorite people to see at my front door, or on the road when I’m walking my dogs. He’s full of joy and always has a great big “hello!” to offer, which never fails to result in a huge smile from residents,” Bush wrote on Instagram, alongside a selfie of the two (not to worry, as Bush also noted in her caption, the two “kept their distance).

The actress continued, “Last week I spent two days cooking more chicken stew—and cooking down 24 hour bone broth—than I can keep track of. I froze mason jars of it, and have been distributing it to neighbors and neighborhood essential workers like my main man right here.”

Today was the day the actress was finally able to see “JP” and give him some of her homemade soup and broth.

“It’s a small act of kindness, within my control in an out of control world” Bush continued. “Cooking and serving reminded me that we can steer our own ships at any time. So. Whatever way you might be able to extend yourself to a neighbor, a friend, or an essential worker today, I encourage you!”

On National Doctors Day, the actress also took to social media to honor all the healthcare professionals working at the front lines to help those affected by COVID-19.

“In a time when healthcare professionals are being denied proper PPE, our gov’t won’t deploy ventilators, & we’ve now lost more Americans to COVID—19 than we did on 9/11? It can be easy to get swallowed by hopelessness and helplessness. But these doctors, nurses, & hospital workers?” she wrote on Instagram, sharing one of her friend’s stories and picture.

“They deserve our love, support, and our FIGHT, as they fight. As their faces are bruised from wearing masks too long. As they have to sleep in their garages to avoid exposing their families,” she added. “My friend @thisisnatalie shared this beautiful exchange with her Dad, and I wanted to share it with all of you. Let’s keep the hope alive.”

Paul Walker's Daughter Shares Never-Before-Seen Video of Her Late Father

Paul Walker may have seemed like a tough guy on the big screen, but he was a real softie when it came to his one and only daughter, Meadow.

This vulnerable and emotional side to the Fast and the Furious actor comes through in the few pictures and videos Meadow occasionally shares to Instagram. Most recently, the 21-year-old posted a clip of herself surprising her dad on his birthday. In the video, he walks up to a door Meadow stands behind waiting to shout, “Hi,” prompting the action star to run backwards.

“What the hell! You just scared the hell out of me,” he says through a fit of laughter. As he recovers from the fright, he pulls her in for a big hug.

While Meadow isn’t a frequent poster on the social media app, she said, “I never thought I’d share this. But it felt right.”

She added, “Be good. I love you. Stay safe. xx”

Though it’s been nearly seven years since Paul died in a tragic car accident, Meadow continues to uphold his legacy through her work at the Paul Walker Foundation. The foundation is currently raising funds for the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to help those impacted by the coronavirus.

Alyssa Milano Wants Her New Book to Inspire "Hope For a Brighter Tomorrow"

Could there be a better time for a message of hope?

That’s exactly what Alyssa Milano‘s new book aims to deliver (it even has “hope” in its title!). The actress joined E!’s Carissa Culiner and Justin Sylvester on Daily Pop‘s Instagram Live on Tuesday to share what inspired her to write Hope: Project Animal Rescue in the first place, as well as provide some insight into what quarantine has been like for her and her family.

According to Milano, this book is the second in an ongoing series. Another is set to be released in October.

“Really, I wanted to write a series about kids in middle school and giving them the tools to change the world and to make a difference and to find their voice…but also go through every single element that young people go through while discovering who they are and what they believe in,” Milano explained to Culiner and Sylvester while video chatting.

She said these tools include volunteering, fundraising and “all of those things that I think are so vital to a society that we’ve kind of lost track of.”

The initial inspiration for the books came from Milano’s own kids, but also something she said she’s found in any child she’s met: “an innate ability, no matter what is going on around them, to hope for a brighter tomorrow.”

This, of course, is difficult for many to do right now due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak and the subsequent need to stay isolated. Like plenty of other parents around the world, Milano admitted to Culiner and Sylvester that she’s having “a tricky time.”

“I don’t know how much of the truth to tell them,” she said of her kids. “I don’t know how much to shelter them from the truth.”

On a lighter note, Milano’s extremely frustrated with the remote learning process—especially when it comes to the phenomenon that is Common Core math: “I mean, I don’t understand why we can’t just carry the one anymore?”

Now that’s a question that is likely being asked by moms and dads everywhere!

Vancouver Residents Hold Nightly Cheer in Support of Health Care Workers

Not all heroes wear capes, but a whole bunch of them wear scrubs.

As doctors, nurses, scientists and other health care workers continue to work around the clock to help patients battling the Coronavirus, people around the world are applauding their healthcare worker in honor of World Health Day. More recently, Vancouver residents came together to express their gratitude in a unique way.

In videos circulating on social media, dozens upon dozens of residents stepped out of their houses and onto their balconies at 7 p.m. local time to deliver a nightly cheer in honor of health care workers.

Whistles, cowbells, noisemakers and a round of applause filled the air in video captured by Cat Toffoli. And yes, even some four-legged friends decided to participate in the act of kindness with some innocent barks.

“All the feels are tears,” she wrote on Twitter when a user called the moment “fantastic.” Ultimately, Vancouver is just one of many cities expressing gratitude for health care workers in their own unique way.

On the East Coast, several cities are participating in “Hearts for Healthcare Workers” where residents place a heart on their front door or window to let health care heroes know how much they are appreciated.

According to CNN, residents in Turkey, India and Israel have cheered for health care workers at a specific time.

And just weeks ago, #Solidarityat8 trended in the United States as Americans expressed their gratitude outside.

“Healthcare Professionals near and far have always deserved our support, and now more than ever,” Troy Police Department in New York shared on Twitter. “TPD is appreciative of all those on the frontlines fighting the spread. #SOLIDARITYAT8 @SPHPnews @TroyCityHall.”

And as the Coronavirus continues to affect thousands of individuals, many in Hollywood are working to get masks and other supplies to first responders. Several TV shows have offered supplies while Bethenny Frankel‘s BStrong organization is raising money to help hospitals in need.

“My friend @Bethenny is doing amazing work, securing masks and other supplies for various hospitals,” Ellen DeGeneres wrote on Twitter. “The Ellen Show and @Shuterfly are donating to help cover costs.” Find out how you can help online now.

Jake Gyllenhaal Says Heath Ledger ''Refused'' to Participate in Brokeback Mountain Oscars ''Joke''

Jake Gyllenhaal has said in the past that Brokeback Mountain, which he starred alongside the late actor Heath Ledger, is one of the movies of his he can’t bring himself to watch.

“There are things you’re chosen for—a quality, an essence—and [Ang Lee] did that,” the 39-year-old shared in a recent interview with Another Man magazine. “And it’s still a mystery to me. And something that Heath and I shared: that it was a mystery to us at the time,”

Gyllenhaal also shared that the late actor refused to present at the 2007 Academy Awards over a joke that involved their respective character’s romantic relationship in the film.

“I mean, I remember they wanted to do an opening for the Academy Awards that year that was sort of joking about it,” he explained. “And Heath refused. I was sort of at the time, ‘Oh, okay… whatever.’ I’m always like: it’s all in good fun. And Heath said, ‘It’s not a joke to me—I don’t want to make any jokes about it.'”

Gyllenhaal added, “That’s the thing I loved about Heath. He would never joke. Someone wanted to make a joke about the story or whatever, he was like, ‘No. This is about love. Like, that’s it, man. Like, no.'”

The two starred in the 2005 film alongside Michelle Williamsand Anne Hathaway.

During the interview, Gyllenhaal also spoke about how much he’s evolved as an actor since then, his ever changing approach to his craft and how in the past, he’s “hidden a lot” through his movie roles.

Universal Studios

“I am super-specific, I am obsessive sometimes when I’m creating things,” the actor shared. “I think I’ve hidden a lot. Like, ‘I’m gonna hide, and then I’ll create these characters and I’ll tinker in the corner with these ideas…’ I hid in my idea of what I thought an actor was supposed to be, what they’re supposed to do. And I’m kind of like: ‘Fuck it, I’m not like that at all.'”

Further, Gyllenhaal also shared that his 2017 movie Stronger—which follows the true story of a Boston Marathon runner Jeff Bauman who loses both of his legs when two bombs explode during the marathon in 2013—marked a pivotal point in his acting career.

“I think I kinda pushed so hard, I wanted that movie to be so excellent. It was a devotion of mine to the guy I played and for myself. I tried everything I could to do his story service—I fought so hard for that movie to get seen, for his story to be appreciated,” he explained to the magazine. “It felt like a lot of pressure. Because we had made a choice to tell a story about something that was devastating and really real and a person who I became really good friends with.”

The actor added, “And so I just pushed really hard. It didn’t have the response that I really wished for it. And I think in some ways, in the process of it, learning from Jeff, who I played in that movie, I went, ‘What am I doing? What am I pushing so hard for?’ You know? You can’t pretend these things, you know. You’re never going to play the actual experience. Someone said to me: ‘You’ve lost your imagination.’ And I think I realized that I’d sort of almost lost my imagination. And I went, ‘Well, what the fuck is acting…’ or, ‘what the fuck is creation…without imagination?'”

Ultimately, the lackluster response the film garnered made him realize he had to rethink what he thought acting was and learn to “have a little more fun here.”

Most recently, the actor has starred in Spider-Man: Far From Home, Southpaw and Nocturnal Animals.

This $16 Crossback Tank Has Over 750 5-Star Amazon Reviews

We love these products, and we hope you do too. E! has affiliate relationships, so we may get a small share of the revenue from your purchases. Items are sold by the retailer, not E!.

No doubt about it: Amazon is full of affordable fashion finds, from cozy $30 oversized cardigans to $14 pleated tanks, and even $25 skinny jeans from Levi’s. And we’ve found another one for you that can help with your at-home workouts: this crossback tank for just $16!

Made by Mippo, this workout tank is crafted of super soft modal and a little bit of spandex, ensuring it’s comfy enough to wear while you’re breaking a sweat. Available in sizes Xs to XXL, it also features larger arm holes so you have more freedom of movement, and comes in 16 colors, so you have plenty of options to choose from if you’re looking to break out of your tried and true black workout gear!

Plus, it’s lightweight, breathable, and chic enough for everyday wear, so you can wear it for lounging or even brunch, when that day returns! It’s the perfect versatile piece to add to your wardrobe.

But as always, you don’t have to take our word for it. There’s hundreds of reviews raving about this tank!

“This flow tank is a slinky kind of material that gives a really flattering fit,” wrote one reviewer. “I am 5’7″ 195 lbs and carry most of my weight in my belly, and the XL fit my shoulder and bust nicely, and flowed loosely over my tummy without being baggy or unflattering. I have ordered it in another color as well because I like it so much!”

In another review titled “Light and Airy,” someone shared, “I work out at least three times a week and so I’m always looking for comfortable and fashionable clothing for when I go to the gym. I want to be comfortable and be able to do my cardio and strength training and yes, I like to look fashionable while I do. This tank is cute and functional. I really like the cross back. I think it allows for more movement as well as more air circulation to keep me cooler and dry faster. I work out hard and I don’t want clothes that are going to be tight and stick to me. This tank is nice and open, but stays put even when I work out hard. I would definitely recommend.”

“Love this shirt!” exclaimed another enthusiastic reviewer. “Like others have stated, it’s a little low cut around the arms, so it does show the bra and skin. It wouldn’t be an issue If you’re fit. I wore a tank top underneath and it was fine. Love the material. Very soft and stretchy. My personal trainer loved the look of the shirt. I will buy more!”

There are even more fab Amazon fashion finds to be had, like these $20 leggings with pockets and this $24 crossbody bag!
