The Home Edit's Tips and Tricks to Finding "Calming Relief" in Your Living Space

There’s no better time than now to cross a few items off the to-do list.

Whether people are working from home or simply spending more time indoors, this is the opportunity to finally getting around to organizing the closet, pantry or work space in a way that is conducive to creating a peaceful and comfortable home.

But there’s always the difficulty of scanning Pinterest boards, searching for boxes and figuring out the system that works best for the task at hand. Luckily, Lauren Lagarde of the Home Edit is offering the numerous tips and tricks needed to have your home in ship-shape order.

Lauren and her team have helped Gwyneth Paltrow, Mindy Kaling, and Khloe and Kim Kardashian achieve the closets and pantries of their dreams and she wants to help readers too!

To learn what advice she has, check out our exclusive Q&A below!

E!: With everyone being home now, why is this a good time to organize your living space?

LL: Well, first of all, organizing provides some calming relief, which is extremely needed right now. Even though the world is a mess, your living space doesn’t have to reflect that. Organizing will give you something productive to do, rather than refreshing your newsfeed every five minutes. When you’re in a space that functions well and looks beautiful, you feel more grounded, like you can finally take a breath. Also, since people have more time on their hands, this is the perfect time to tackle a project that’s been on your to-do list. As far as we’re concerned, it’s a win-win!

The Home Edit

E!: What are your main tips for organizing your workspace for people who have to work from home now?

LL: 1. Create a spot for current, on-going, or pending projects. Having a specific spot will decrease piles of clutter that can otherwise accumulate.

2. Use acrylic paper trays and sorters to keep clutter off of a desk while still keeping paperwork you access daily nearby. When in files, magazine holders and storage boxes also provide easy access—even on a shelf.

3. Designate stations for your various tasks. For instance, if you tend to write down notes while on a call, place all your pens and post-its next to the phone, or in a drawer next to it.

4. Using a cord wrap or cable tie to gather your laptop and phone wires help prevent them from taking over your desk or media table. There are also a variety of colors you can use to identify different categories!

E!: What are your tips for keeping your workspace separate from your living space?

LL: Create a designated workspace and keep it there. This is your office now. It doesn’t matter where it is, but it should be a place where you can set up systems that streamline your work routine. The goal is at the end of the day, you’re able to file papers away, create a to-do list, and start fresh in the same place tomorrow.

E!: What are the main areas people should focus on organizing now that we have more time at home?

LL: Pantries, fridges, and living rooms. We access these spaces on a daily basis, which means more opportunity for clutter to build. Use this time to create functional systems that will streamline your family’s routine for both short-term and long-term use.

E!: What are your tips for organizing your pantries?

LL: 1. Every single pantry needs to have some form of a basket or bin to contain the general categories. Clear canisters are great for dry goods and staple items, but it’s still important to have some large categories in bins that aren’t overly specific or singular. For example, a “Dinner Bin” can hold everything from boxes of pasta, cans of soup, or taco shells – so you are never stuck with an item that doesn’t have a home.

2. Be realistic with your time and lifestyle. If you’re a busy parent or have a time-consuming job, you’re not going to want to come home from the grocery store and empty everything into canisters. Open bins are much easier to manage and require no extra work.

3. LABEL YOUR CATEGORIES! If you label a bin as “Breakfast,” it’s very hard to put a bag of chips in it without feeling (appropriately) guilty. Labels are really the key to long term maintenance.

4. Schedule a quick 15-minute pass per month to weed out expired or nearly finished items.

E!: With people increasing their food supply and buying in bulk, what are you tips for storage and organizing mass amounts of product?

LL: If you are buying in bulk, make sure to have space for overflow items that don’t fit into your bins. If you have a huge amount of snacks, devote a couple of bins to those items so you aren’t cramming everything into a single container. Understanding what you have on hand will help you create a more organized space, and save you time and money at the grocery store.

E!: How do you maximize your fridge and freezer space with bulk buy?

LL: Create a zone system with containers and labels. Not only does it keep your fridge clean and uncluttered, but it will also help you take advantage of vertical space.

In addition, interior designer Sarah Anderson-Magness recommends, “Pull all your shoes out of your closet…organize them by color, heel size, brand, occasion and season. If you are limited on space, organize by season first. I usually keep all my shoes in boxes and you can create labels on the outside to identify each shoe.”

Now, go forth and conquer!

Inside Khloe Kardashian's Plans to Celebrate Daughter True's 2nd Birthday at Home With Tristan Thompson

True Thompson‘s 1st birthday was a real blowout.

Her whole family was in attendance, there was an organic Popsicle cart in the backyard, cotton candy was being spun to order, and the balloon action was lit. The kids took home headphones as party favors and of course there was a Hansen’s cake.

True’s 2nd birthday this Sunday is still going to be special, just on a decidedly smaller scale.

First of all… where does the time go?! True is 2!

And second, Khloe Kardashian will still be going all out for her daughter’s big day, which this year falls on Easter as well, only within the confines of her own property while Los Angeles County residents are being advised to stay home amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.

“I can’t believe my baby will be TWO this Sunday… time flies so quickly!!!” Khloe tweeted Monday. “I’m so grateful for every second.”

Instagram

Khloe and the rest of her sprawling family have been social-distancing like so many others for about three weeks now, though Kris Jennerhas made a few quick trips to her daughters’ homes to drop off food.

Last weekend Khloe showed off the cheesecake her mom brought over, next to a slightly misshapen loaf of bread she baked herself.

But naturally, Khloe has been making the stay-at-home life all about True, the apple of her eye and star of her Instagram Story.

Mother and daughter have been cooking (Khloe in the real kitchen and True with her playhouse stove and fridge), watching Sesame Street and, when it isn’t raining, spending lots of time in their massive backyard, which boasts a trampoline. And, naturally, they have matching leopard-print pajamas for movie nights.

True’s dad, Tristan Thompson, who’s been in a holding pattern since the NBA season was suspended on March 11, has been spending more time with his daughter than he usually gets to at this time of year with a full game schedule, and a source tells E! News he’ll be at Khloe’s place for the birthday celebration.

“Khloe is going to have a special birthday party at home for True with Tristan,” the source says. “She’ll make the day extra special for True, even though it will be just them.”

But thanks to Zoom, the family will get to spend Easter together in a way, and they can sing “Happy Birthday” to True via video. (We’ve seen these harmonious moments in action thanks to the Broadway stars and other artists who’ve been posting them to keep people’s spirits up, and they’re kind of amazing.)

An intricately detailed Easter candy house has already been on display and “Khloe is going to go out of her way to make it a fun day for True with egg-dyeing and sweets,” the insider added. “She and Tristan are getting along well and its been nice to have him around more than they expected.”

Indeed, a source told E! News last month that Khloe and True were enjoying getting to see Tristan more often—which, of course, led to the umpteenth rumor that they were back together.

But no, they’re just co-parenting super efficiently these days.

“Khloe is taking the quarantine very seriously and is staying home with True,” the source said. “There are no play dates or family time other than with Tristan. He is regularly over at Khloe’s house and stays in contact with them when he’s not.”

And Khloe’s family, which has had experience getting used to having exes in their midst, seems to be on board.

“I actually LOVE Tristan now like a brother FR!” Kim Kardashian tweeted after the Keeping Up With the Kardashians season premiere last month. “We totally bonded and worked through our issues and love him.”

Which is good, because our source says that Khloe does plan on having a bigger celebration for True that includes Tristan when everyone’s able to be together again.

Tweeting through Thursday’s episode of KUWTK as usual, Khloe noted in response to some of the less supportive comments she was receiving about her choices: “It’s crazy that some people find being single, healing and happy is a negative. Lol I literally am so chillin right now. I’m focused on loving my baby girl [heart emoji] life is beautiful.”

When there are children around there’s not nearly as much free time on a person’s hands as it might otherwise seem these days, but Khloe has also been busy making sure that her business is helping those who are in an infinitely more precarious place than she’s been in the last few weeks.

She announced via Instagram Story that her Good American brand procured 30,000 N95 masks (the kind the medical professionals need) to donate to 18 hospitals and clinics around the country, and the website is now selling non-medical-grade denim masks for general use. They’ve also teamed with the e-commerce company Pitney Bowes to donate $1 million worth of jeans to hospital workers.

Meanwhile, a portion of the proceeds from sales of Good American’s Fit for Success jumpsuits is being donated to Baby2Baby, which helps moms get the supplies they need to care for their young children—and which has been working overtime in recent weeks to help struggling families in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Kim Kardashian‘s SKIMS shapewear line is also donating 20 percent of proceeds from its Cotton Collection to Baby2Baby (and Kim herself is doing her best to share pertinent information—beauty how-to’s included—with her 165 million followers). Kylie Jenner(again the youngest self-made billionaire in the world at 22, according to Forbes) donated $1 million to coronavirus relief efforts—and after the Surgeon General himself publicly asked those with massive social media footprints, including Kylie, to encourage people to stay home, she did just that.

So, this crisis, like so many other things big and small, has prompted a full-on Karadashian-Jenner family response.

And with so many family members, at least there’s another happy occasion to celebrate this Sunday, apart but always together.

Real Housewives Alum Shereé Whitfield Says Her Mom Has Been Missing Since March

Bravo

UPDATE: Shereé Whitfield‘s mother has been located.

“Thank you for all the prayers, they WORKED!” she announced via Instagram on Friday. “My mom has been found safe & healthy. She is with family now. I couldn’t have gotten through this without your support! GOD IS GOOD!”

______

Shereé Whitfield is asking for prayers as the search for her mother wages on.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum took to social media on Wednesday to reveal that her 72-year-old mom, Thelma Ferguson, is missing.

“Please keep my mom and my family in your prayers! We all know that prayers can move mountains!!! I was hesitant to post my concerns for my mother’s safe return because, although I have been in close contact with the police for the past two weeks, I’m also pretty private when it comes to my family,” she wrote in a statement on Instagram. “Also, in the past, my mom has taken personal vacations without letting the family know and we respect that side of her. However, this is the longest she have gone without reaching out to anyone from the family or her friends. Right now we are leaning on God and staying positive and prayerful for her safe return home. HOME is where the HEART is and prayer in numbers work.

The reality star concluded, “As we all continue to navigate through these uncertain times, remember the blessings of having each other…. Family is everything! I ask that everyone pray for my mother’s safe return home. And know that our family will be internally [sic] grateful.”

She also noted, “If anyone has any information we ask that you please call Sandy Springs police at 770-551-6923 or email the detective handling the missing persons case at rgehricke@sandyspringsga.gov. Thank you!”

“We want to thank everyone for the enormous amount of love, support and prayers that we have received for my family and for the safe return home of my mom,” the star told E! News. “We ask that you continue to pray. At this time, we are still remaining positive and keeping the faith that she will return home safe and sound. My mom is a person who dances to the beat of her own drum. She’s a free spirit. If she wants to travel, she goes. However, she has never been away this long without communicating with any of us.”

Whitfield also shared a message to her mom with E! News. “Mom, we are really worried about you. Home is where you need to be, especially during this pandemic. We need to know that you are safe! Your grandkids and family are worried sick. Please just come home or let us know that you are okay.”

Khloe Kardashian Reveals Her "Fun" and "Different" Plans to Celebrate True Thompson's 2nd Birthday

move

Khloe Kardashian is pulling out all the stops to ensure daughter True Thompson has a memorable and fun second birthday.

Though she isn’t able to celebrate True’s birthday with family and friends as one typically would, the mom is making the most of the occasion, which happens to land on Easter Sunday. On Instagram Live she told Good American cofounder Emma Grede they’re going all out for the holiday and birthday by having an Easter egg hunt, dyeing eggs and doing all the other activities associated with the day. “She’s never had like an Easter egg hunt because she’s always been too young, so I’m going to do fun things that’s engaging and different for her,” the 35-year-old shared.

She added that she’s trying to do thing True’s “not used to” so it still feels like a special occasion, even though the rest of the Kardashian family can’t be there.

“It will be really fun for her,” the mom predicted.

Last year, Khloe and ex-boyfriend Tristan Thompson threw a huge bash for True’s first birthday, complete with ice pops, cotton candy and other essential treats.

While this year’s party won’t be nearly the size of the last, the most important thing is both of her parents will be present for the festivities. A source previously shared that Tristan continues to visit both Khloe and True at their home in Calabasas, something he has the ability to do since the NBA postponing this season for the foreseeable future. “It’s been nice for them to be able to see him more regularly. Khloe is taking the quarantine very seriously and is staying home with True. There are no playdates or family time other than with Tristan. He is regularly over at Khloe’s house and stays in contact with them when he’s not,” the insider shared.

Not to say that True won’t get the big bash she deserves. Khloe assures, “I love to throw a good party, but it’s going to give me an excuse to throw parties after [the shelter in place order] cause it’s True’s birthday then it’s Kourtney‘s this month.”

For now, she will have to settle on cake, presents and her  parents—what more could a 2-year-old want?

Blac Chyna Shares New Photos of Dream Kardashian With Blue Hair

Dream Kardashianis serving looks with her new ‘do.

The 3-year-old is now sporting a chic and stylish look thanks to the help of mom Blac Chyna. This Friday, her mom shared on Instagram that she had temporarily colored the toddler’s hair a sleek blue shade after multiple requests. “Dream, wanted to have colored hair like mommy so I used @hairpaintwax in the color [blue],” Blac Chyna captioned her post.

Of course, this is only temporary as the paint wax removes in one wash, according to the brand. This offers Dream the chance to change things up without committing to a more permanent look.

In photos of Dream, she poses at her mom’s fireplace in a Gucci sweatshirt and blue pants that compliment her curly long locks, which were pulled back in a half-up, half-down style.

In addition, Blac Chyna shared a video of Dream twirling around so that she can properly show off her ‘do.

It appears Dream is staying with her mom, while father Rob Kardashian social distances at mom Kris Jenner‘s home.

The entire Kardashian family is currently playing it safe and following all recommendations from senior health officials amid the coronavirus pandemic. “I was organizing my photos in my phone and found this and miss my sisters but we are all social distancing and staying away from each other all separately self quarantined,” Kim Kardashian wrote to her fans in mid-March. “It’s hard but we have to do this for our safety and for everyone else’s.”

“PLEASE do not ignore the severity of the warnings to stay inside to stop the spread of this virus,” Kim’s message continued. “We will all get through this! #TogetherApart”

At least fans can keep up with the Kardashians over social media posts like Dream’s hairdo debut!

Dorit Kemsley Talks Coming Into Her Own Following Lisa Vanderpump's RHOBH Departure

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 10 will be “exhilarating” and have “shocking revelations.”

That’s what Dorit Kemsley teased during an exclusive chat with Daily Pop‘s Carissa Culiner and Justin Sylvester. Although the RHOBH star said she hadn’t watched the premiere, which airs Wednesday, Apr. 15 at 8 p.m. on Bravo, she reminded viewers that she did live through the drama.

Nonetheless, Kemsley is looking forward to Wednesday’s premiere as she feels she’s really come into her own as a diamond-holding housewife. This season marks the first without former BFF Lisa Vanderpump, whom Kemsley had a dramatic falling out with in season nine.

“It feels like I’ve come into my own. There’s something kind of nice about being on an island all by yourself, you know?” Kemsley dished. “I have great relationships with the other women, but there isn’t this pressure or responsibility to be aligned with someone just because you have to be aligned with them.”

Furthermore, Kemsley noted that she now has the “freedom to have an opinion.” Not to mention, with this being her fourth season, the Bravolebrity highlighted she’s more “comfortable” now.

“This was a very shocking, surprising season,” she added.

Even though Kemsley maintained her independence this season, she noted that co-stars Kyle Richards and Teddi Mellencamp are closer than ever.

“I definitely poked fun at it a lot this season. Kyle doesn’t like it too much, but that’s what I see,” the mother of two remarked. “They’ve got a great friendship and they’ve got an unbreakable bond. They have got each other’s backs no matter what.”

John Tsiavis/Bravo Media

We’re certain we’ll see that play out over the course of season 10. Thankfully, Kemsley always has husband PK Kemsley in her corner. Speaking of PK, the 43-year-old designer joked about her man’s least favorite housewife.

“Yeah, I think his least favorite is gone,” she quipped.

This tea is piping hot! Still, Kemsley assured viewers that she has nothing but love for her current co-stars.

“Even though we have our moments, we’ve really built a great friendship,” Kemsley expressed. “And we allow for moments that are not perfect, you know? And that’s ok. I think that really makes it a friendship and I’m proud of that.”

For all of this and more, including an update on Beverly Beach and RHOBH‘s reunion plan amid coronavirus, be sure to watch her entire interview above.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills returns Wednesday, Apr. 15 at 8 p.m. on Bravo!

(E! and Bravo are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
