Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s J. August Richards Comes Out as Gay

J. August Richards has experienced “one of the best days” of his life: the day he came out as gay.

This week, the 46-year-old Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. alum was discussing his role on Council of Dads with castmate Sarah Wayne Callies in an Instagram Live when he revealed he had something in common with his character.

On the NBC series, the actor portrays Dr. Oliver Post, a married gay black man and father, a character not often seen on television.

While discussing the pressure and responsibility of the role, Richards told Callies, “If I think about why I even got involved in this industry, it was really to combat oppression…I knew how I was affected by the people of color I saw on television, or that I didn’t see on television…and so this being a married gay man with a family…on television, I don’t take anything I do lightly, and you know, you have an opportunity to put an image into millions of homes…I wanted that image to be honest and I wanted it to be correct.”

“Honestly, it required me to show up fully in a way that I don’t always when I’m working,” he elaborated. “I knew that I could not portray this gay man honestly without letting you all know that I was a gay man myself…I’ve never done that with the people that I’ve worked with.”

Richards continued, “That responsibility carried me to do that because I knew how important it is to other people out there like me, who would need to see that role model, so I took that responsibility very seriously.”

He highlighted the moment by posting the footage on his Instagram profile on Monday, writing, “Why I let the cast and crew of @nbccouncilofdads know that I’m gay…”The post was met with uplifting, celebratory and supportive comments for the star.

“Everyone said it would be but nothing could have prepared me. Yesterday was one of the best days of my life,” he wrote on his page on Tuesday in a caption for a photo of himself donning a rainbow shirt. “‘Thank you’ feel like cheap words to describe the depths of the gratitude I feel for your support and the crushing avalanche of LOVE I felt aimed at me yesterday.”

The actor continued, “Who knew that something I once thought of as terrifying had within it something so beautiful… For every comment, like, emoji, repost, phone call, text message, everything. I felt it ALL… Thank you!!! #PRIDE #LGBTQ#BlackLGBTQ #ComingOut#SelfLove #SelfAcceptance.”

Mark Ruffalo's Tribute to 13 Going on 30 Will Have You Craving Razzles

Mark Ruffalo will always be thirty, flirty and thriving.

On Thursday, the actor celebrated the 16th anniversary of 13 Going On 30 with an adorable tribute post on social media. Sharing a snapshot of him and his co-star Jennifer Garner from the movie, Mark reflected on the 2004 film and gave their characters’ favorite candy a special shout-out.

“Happy Anniversary to 13 Going on 30 today!” he captioned the photo where he and the Dallas Buyers Club star can be seen sharing a sweet embrace as they snack on their Razzles. “Remember what the world was like when Razzles were all the rage? Missing that time.”

Thrilled by the Avengers: Endgame star’s post, fans were quick to celebrate the milestone anniversary with tweets of their own. “Still one of my favourite movies,” one fan shared, along with a clip of the duo dancing to Michael Jackson‘s “Thriller” in the film. Referencing their iconic dance scene, another fan chimed in, pleading, “remake this please…”

Unimpressed by Jenna and Matty’s candy of choice, one Twitter user wrote: “i tried razzles because of you and they were gross, i still love u tho.” Professing their love for the Now You See Me star, another fan wrote, “This was THE movie that made me fall in love with you! Still one of my faves to this day.”

Despite hitting theaters nearly two decades ago, 13 Going On 30 still remains one of the best romantic comedies to date. Paying homage to the classic film, Ariana Grande channeled Jennifer’s character in her “thank u, next” music video back in 2018, which also celebrated popular 2000s rom coms Mean Girls, Bring It On and Legally Blonde as well.

Humbled by Ari’s portrayal of her, Jennifer took to Instagram to give the music video her seal of approval, writing, “Every now and then something comes along and just brightens your day. @arianagrande you’re adorable. Thank you, pretty girl. #thankunext.”

As for how the Elektra star feels about a 13 Going On 30 sequel, Jennifer admitted that reprising her role isn’t necessarily on her to-do list. “What, like, ’15 Going on 50?'” she joked when asked about the possibility of a sequel on Good Morning America last year. “Let’s simmer down and then let’s leave well enough alone.”

Elizabeth Warren's Oldest Brother Dead at 86 From Coronavirus

Elizabeth Warren is mourning the death of her oldest brother.

On Thursday morning, the United States Senator confirmed the passing of Don Reed after he tested positive for Coronavirus.

“My oldest brother, Don Reed, died from coronavirus on Tuesday evening,” she shared on social media. “He joined the Air Force at 19 and spent his career in the military, including five and a half years off and on in combat in Vietnam. He was charming and funny, a natural leader.”

Elizabeth continued, “What made him extra special was his smile—quick and crooked, it always seemed to generate its own light, one that lit up everyone around him.”

The former teacher also included an article from her state’s newspaper that shared more details about her brother’s death. According to the Boston Globe, Don passed away in Norman, Oklahoma about three weeks after testing positive for Coronavirus. He recently had moved to intensive care at Norman Regional Hospital.

“I’m grateful to the nurses and other front-line staff who took care of my brother, but it is hard to know that there was no family to hold his hand or to say ‘I love you’ one more time,” Elizabeth shared on Twitter. “And now there’s no funeral for those of us who loved him to hold each other close. I will miss my brother.”

In her autobiography, Elizabeth wrote about her older sibling and shared some of her fondest memories.

“My first memory of Don Reed was when he left for the service and then of his wedding,” she wrote. “He was adventurous and dashing, and his very existence was like a distant light.”

Shortly after Elizabeth confirmed Don’s passing, many famous figures expressed their condolences online.

“I’m so very sorry for this terrible loss, Senator Warren. Sending you and your family love, strength, and the space to grieve,” Amber Tamblyn wrote online. Mayor Pete Buttigieg shared, “I am so sorry to hear this heartbreaking news. Chasten and I send our deepest condolences from here in South Bend.”

The View co-host Meghan McCain added, This is incredibly tragic…. My condolences to you and your entire family, Senator. Praying and sending you all my strength. I am deeply sorry for this loss. May God be with all of you during this time of pain and grief.”

Can We Please Talk About Reese Witherspoon's Haunting Little Fires Everywhere Finale Scene?

Reese Witherspoon is a great actor. That is not a secret in Hollywood and beyond—she won an Oscar after all—it’s simply a fact.

Lately, Witherspoon has spent a majority of her time doing television shows like Big Little Lies and The Morning Show. Her most recent series, the Hulu miniseries adaptation of Little Fires Everywhere, wrapped up its eight-episode run on Wednesday, April 22 and in the episode, Witherspoon proves once again how great of an actor she is.

In Little Fires Everywhere, Witherspoon played Elena Richardson, a local newspaper reporter and high-strung mom of four kids. Elena fit the mold of many of Witherspoon’s past characters. She was uptight, obsessed with crafting a picture-perfect world for all to see. Elena was very Type A, and proud of it.

However, the façade began to crack when Mia Warren (Kerry Washington) came into her orbit. Warning, spoilers ahead!

Mia and Elena clashed and cracked the precious veneers they both presented to the outside world. It all culminated when Elena’s daughter, Izzy attempting to start fire to the family home, arguing with her mother, running away and then Elena’s three other kids pleading with her mother to go after Izzy…and then setting fire to the house with little fires everywhere. Before they lit the blaze, Lexie (Jade Pettyjohn), had a confrontation with Elena where she came clean about her abortion, about using Pearl’s name and using Pearl’s story for her Yale admissions essay.

Just when viewers had accepted Elena as another shade of the characters Witherspoon has become known for, Witherspoon pulled out all the stops and likely clinched herself an Emmy nomination.

“I tried, I mean I really tried to tell you everything. There’s all of this pressure to be all of these things, to be f—king perfect, but I’m not. I’m not f—king perfect,” Lexie said.

Elena responded with a haunting, guttural scream of, “Yes you are!”

“We had a lot of conversations about it, like more conversations than I’ve ever had about any scene I’ve ever done in any project ever in my whole life. [Laughs.] We just set this character up in a way that it was necessary. It had to all culminate into something. It was us looking at the whole piece and going, ‘What would motivate these children to do something so outrageous?’ I think when you think your mother has lost control or you finally see that part of your mother that is very human and almost monstrous, to use Mia’s word, the children act out in a way because of it. It was really about taking all of the pieces that we wanted to get to and try and get there,” Witherspoon told EW. “And I just kind of lost control. [Laughs.] Which happens sometimes on sets. I remember having to turn to the children and going, ‘Are you okay?'”

“For us the show has always been so much about being a mother but also about having a mother, trying to find your place with your mother, and I think both of these moms are fighting for so much control at the start of this show and the only way to get to the ending is for them to lose their illusion of control over their children and over their lives,” Washington said. “It happens in very different ways obviously, but both of them have their idea of control ripped out from under them.”

The eight-episode series is now streaming on Hulu.

Prince William and Kate Middleton Share Adorable "Instagram vs. Reality" Post With Prince Louis

Prince William and Kate Middleton aren’t regular royals, they’re cool royals!

On Thursday, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge gave their son Prince Louis an adorable shout-out on the Kensington Royal social media account to celebrate his 2nd birthday. In addition to sharing several portraits of the young royal enjoying himself as he finger painted, William and Kate also posted a hilarious outtake from his birthday photoshoot.

In the post, which was comprised of two photos, the newly-crowned 2-year-old can be seen holding up his hands to the camera and showing off the multicolored paints he’d been playing with. And, in the second, Louis was caught smearing the paint on his face, making for a precious photograph.

Comparing the two images, the caption said, “Instagram vs Reality.” The post continued, “Thank you for all your lovely messages on Prince Louis’ second birthday! The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to share new photographs of Prince Louis, taken by The Duchess this April.”

The couple also made sure to include a snapshot of Louis’ artwork, writing, “Sharing a sneak peek of Prince Louis’s handiwork ahead of his second birthday.”

Louis’ last appearance on the Kensington Royal social media was also for a special occasion. Standing next to his older siblings Prince George, 6, and Princess Charlotte, 4, the royal trio paid tribute to the healthcare workers that have been working on the frontlines amid the pandemic by giving them an adorable round of applause.

Last week, William and Kate opened up about homeschooling their three children during their interview with BBC Breakfast. “The children have got such stamina—I don’t know how, honestly,” Kate said as she and William laughed. “You get to the end of the day, you write down on the list of the things you’ve done in that day, you sort of pitch a tent, taking the tent down again, cook, bake, you get to the end of the day, they’ve had a lovely time. But, it’s amazing how much can cram into one day, that’s for sure.”

Another way the family of five is passing the time is by video calling their family members. As the Duke discussed the challenges of staying connected during the pandemic, he revealed that he and Kate have been prioritizing staying in touch with “all of the family online.”
