BRANTFORD, ONTARIO, October 2, 2026

Canada has what the world wants: abundant energy and critical minerals, the most educated workforce in the world, access to 1.5 billion consumers through our free trade agreements, and the strongest fiscal position in the G7. We are building on these advantages to make Canada the best place in the world to invest, build, and grow.

Today, the Honourable Adam van Koeverden, Secretary of State (Sport), participated in an event highlighting how the federal government is helping Canadian businesses of all sizes invest in new equipment, adopt new technology, expand their operations, and compete at home and around the world. This will create the conditions for a new era of investment in Canada.

At the centre of this work is the new Productivity Mega Deduction, one of the most significant changes to Canada’s business tax system in half a century. It will allow businesses to immediately deduct the full cost of a much broader range of investments, giving them a powerful incentive to build, expand, and create good jobs in communities across Canada.

This game-changing new tax incentive will increase the amount of assets eligible for immediate expensing from roughly 15% of assets to more than 65%, including fibre-optic cable, greenhouses, mining property, oil and gas pipelines, software, research and development, computer equipment, aircraft and vehicles, patents, rail track, bridges, and roads.

The federal government is also making immediate expensing permanent, giving businesses the long-term certainty they need to make major investment decisions. Together, these changes will reduce the cost of investing in Canada and lower the marginal effective tax rate on new business investment from roughly 13% to 6.4% – the lowest of any major economy in the world and less than half the rate in the United States.

In an increasingly uncertain world, Canada is choosing to build. By cutting taxes on new investment and moving with speed and ambition, we are setting the conditions for a Canadian investment supercycle—one that will drive growth, productivity, and prosperity for generations.

The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages, made the following statement:

“Every year, October marks Canadian Islamic History Month, an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the many contributions of Muslim communities to Canada’s history, culture and society.

Today, nearly 2 million Muslims from more than 50 countries call Canada home. At the heart of the Islamic faith are the Five Pillars of Islam, which are closely connected to values such as empathy, humility, gratitude, generosity and care for people who are most vulnerable. These principles resonate with values that Canadians hold dear and help build a more caring, united and inclusive society.

Canadian Muslims have also enriched our country through their diverse cultures, traditions and stories. From entrepreneurship and science to the arts, architecture and the community sector, their creativity, knowledge and dedication continue to help shape our communities and make our country stronger.

Canadian Islamic History Month is also an opportunity to remind ourselves that we must continue to confront the scourge of Islamophobia that affects Muslim communities across the country. We will always stand with Muslim communities and defend the right of all Canadians to express their culture and faith safely.

Earlier this year, we established the Advisory Council on Rights, Equality and Inclusion, bringing together experts and community leaders from across the country to strengthen social cohesion and combat racism and hate in all their forms. We are also strengthening the Canada Community Security Program and taking action through the Combatting Hate Act, Canada’s Anti-Racism Strategy 2024–2028 and Canada’s Action Plan on Combatting Hate. Together, these efforts are helping build safer, more inclusive communities for everyone.

This October, I invite everyone to discover and celebrate the incredible contributions, cultures and traditions of Muslim communities across the country.

I wish all Muslim communities in every province and territory a very happy Canadian Islamic History Month.”

“Every day, more than half a million people of Latin American origin enrich our country and help shape our communities. Coming from 22 countries, Latin American Canadians bring a diversity of languages—from Spanish and Portuguese to hundreds of Indigenous languages—as well as a mosaic of traditions and experiences that make our society stronger.

 Whether recently arrived in Canada or born here, Latin American Canadians inspire, create and build, shaping communities through cultural organizations, community centres and diverse businesses. With pride, creativity and a wholehearted spirit, Latin American Canadians enrich Canada’s cultural landscape across every form of artistic expression, from literature and poetry to film, television, music and dance.

Across Latin America, diverse cultural and spiritual traditions have shaped the ways communities mark life’s most important moments, from welcoming new generations to honouring those who came before them. While these traditions differ from one country and community to another, the importance of passing down stories, knowledge and traditions remains a powerful part of many Latin American cultures. Caring about family and community members as well as the importance of creating bonds and a sense of belonging are values that are cherished by many Latin American Canadians and shared throughout Canada.

However, we must also recognize that racism and discrimination remain a reality for too many people of Latin American origin in Canada. Through Canada’s Anti-Racism Strategy 2024-2028, and Canada’s Action Plan on Combatting Hate, we are taking action to break down barriers, combat hate and build safer, more inclusive communities where everyone can feel that they belong.

During Latin American Heritage Month, I invite all Canadians to discover the richness of Latin American traditions, cultures and histories, and celebrate the values that bring us together.

“Today marks the beginning of German Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the history, cultures and contributions of the millions of people of Germanic origin who strengthen our country every day.

Since the first immigrants from Germany, Austria and Switzerland arrived in Canada in the 17th and 18th centuries, more than 3 million people of Germanic ancestry have made Canada their home, enriching our communities and helping shape the country we are today.

From lively community celebrations such as Oktoberfest, to music, craftsmanship and delicious food, we are proud that German cultures and traditions are vibrant and alive across Canada. In communities across the country, Samstagsschulen, or Saturday schools, Goethe Institutes and German studies programs at universities, help pass German languages, traditions and cultures from one generation to the next.

This October, let’s discover this vibrant German cultural heritage that is part of Canada’s story.
