Minnie Driver Flubs the National Anthem at Dodgers Game, Laughs It Off on Twitter—Watch Now!

Practice doesn’t always make perfect!

The pressure is always on when it comes time to sing the National Anthem in front of a massive crowd—say, at a Los Angeles Dodgers game—and it looks like Minnie Driver let it get to her. While singing “The Star Spangled Banner” Saturday night, the Return to Me actress flubbed the lyrics twice in the minute-long rendition.

She started out strong, but as the song went on she botched the line, “O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming.” If you listen closely, Driver chose a different word than “watched.” Shortly thereafter, she turned “Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,” into “Oh, say can that star-spangled banner yet wave.”

But if you’re going to botch lyrics to one of the most important songs of all time, you better have a sense of humor about it! Thankfully, she did! The actress turned to Twitter to laugh off her flub and shrug off the haters who jumped on her the second she made the mistakes.

“Gosh, I sang ‘hailed’ instead of ‘watched’ during the Nat Anthem last night. What can I say? I am an imperfect human being. I think that’s ok,” she tweeted.

When another Twitter jokingly asked when the British star whether or not she would be deported for her terrible mistake, Driver responded with a quip of her own, “I think in about half an hour…#Dodgers.”

Despite her mess up, others supported the About a Boy actress on the social media platform, telling her that she did a “perfectly wonderful” job. Although she might have had a rough start to the game, her performance didn’t affect the Dodgers at all, as they went on to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 2-0!

Plus, she definitely isn’t the first person—nor will she be the last—to confuse the lyrics. American Idol champion Scotty McCreery made some mistakes before a World Series game, Cyndi Lauper messed it up at a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at the U.S. Open and Christina Aguilera famously sang the incorrect lyrics before Super Bowl XLV.
