Police say a 12-year-old boy died in an Athabasca hospital Tuesday night after he was hit by a driver who fled the scene.
RCMP say a 2006 Ford Freestar van driven by a 36-year-old woman hit the child, throwing him into the ditch alongside Highway 55, around 8:30 p.m.
The van then took off, police say.
The boy was taken to Athabasca Hospital where he later died.
The driver turned herself in to police around 11 p.m. RCMP say charges are now pending against her.
