Customers at Thickwood Tim Hortins Creating Traffic Hazards
Tim Hortons is a popular destination in Canada and the USA, but the Thickwood location has been under scrutiny because customers are creating traffic hazards in order to use the drive thru at the well known coffee and food chain. The RCMP had to issue a warning because cars were lined up out of the parking lot and were lining the road on Thickwood Boulevard, leading to traffic hazards which can not be ignored by law enforcement. The warning issued by the rCMP reminds drivers that the area is a no parking area and that vehicles will be fined. According to RCMP Cst. Ashley Quallie drivers must park in the lot and go inside if the drive through is backed up, and she stated “People are stopping because the drive-through at Tim Hortons is backing up. Because it’s illegal to stop there, (they have) to either find parking in the Tim Hortons parking lot or they’re going to have to find parking on the side road to then use the establishment, because it is a traffic hazard and it can cause accidents.”
When discussing the traffic hazards at the Thickwood Tim Hortons Quallie continued by saying “That’s not a lane to stop in, or designated for that; it’s a turning lane to turn into those businesses. I’m not sure if it’s just the public aren’t aware of the sign and the magnitude … of what the fine is. The Tim Hortons downtown, they have that parking lot, right … so it’s not as big of a hazard as on an actual roadway. People are turning off of Signal Road and coming down Thickwood Boulevard and when people are stopped there, it is a hazard, right? That’s when accidents occur.”
